  1. I really love that the game is such a joy to play. I saw an interview where the developers said that they wanted to design a Mario game where everyone could get to see all the parts of the game without being discouraged. That's very different than making a game that lacks difficulty and actually makes the game something that is relaxing to play–and something needed after covid. And also, I played this along with my kids and it has really been fun all the through so far.

  2. My question is why didn't they have the game take place in the place where Super Mario Land 1 took place. You could even bring back the boss from that game to be a sub boss. Where are the Kooplings as well???? I mean Daisy is a playable character. Let her help save her own kingdom.

  3. I enjoyed playing it, but it was far too easy and far too short, i was expecting something to rival SMW, but it didnt come close for me unfortunately,

It probably doesnt help that ive completed Holliw Knight umpteen times and still play it on the regular, and as fans of 2D platformers are probably aware, if you can beat Hollow Knight, you can beat any platformer, especially a Mario one

  4. johnny, you ought to really consider trying to unlock some of the secrets in this game! there’s a whole secret world, and world map secrets (a la mario bros world and 3)!

  5. I also love Super Mario Bros. Wonder. I'm not at the end yet (savoring a few levels each day, like you John), but I'm loving every second of it. I also think it's not a difficult game, especially for Mario veterans, who have been playing since that first one, so many moons ago.

It's also totally fine for not everyone to love the cute and charming appeal of a Mario game. It's truly not for everyone. But man, these games just always suck you in, and are so well designed and polished, it's a joy to run through. And I think, even if you're totally repulsed by Mario on the simple grounds of it being too 'kiddy', too 'cute', or 'too Nintendo'… just try this one. And also try the harder 5-star levels. See the challenge in them and try to understand why so many people of all ages still dig these games.

Sure, I would also have loved more variety in the bosses. But as pure platforming gameplay goes… nothing… absolutely no other 2D platforming game series, in 38 years has ever come close to matching Mario for gameplay, polish, and charm. Which is both a sad thing, but also a wonderful thing.

  7. I truly thought you were going to say that party guest was a die-hard Sega fan, haha! Maybe that's just the generational gap, but still really cool that they were able to just BS with you despite having a very different opinion.
