Mel Stride was a competent minister but he's being made to repeat a completely incoherent argument. If sentiment is so important to market confidence, then all the last minute cancellation of a trip – months in the planning- to a major trading partner in order to be seen to be handling domestic economic turmoil is going to do is send them into panic mode.

Bond markets are tired of post-neoliberal governments playing fantasy economics. I don't think it's coincidental that the two developed nations most beset by inequality – the UK and the USA – are the two nations most afflicted by market concerns. While The Big Lie continues to be told – there is no money – of course the economy becomes increasingly unproductive and unstable. It may be Labour gets sane NOT because they want to, they're as addicted to the broken status quo as the Tories, but because the markets leave them with no option. I would like to see politicians challenged more often on The Big Lie. It is rarely raised. I'm not sure I've heard Phillips raise it even once.

Friend of the Tories, Trevor Phillips, interrupts Labour minister Peter Kyle before he even finishes a sentence but when Tory MP Stride is on, Phillips has a cosy little chat with him and doesn't pull him up on any of the garbage Stride is spouting and Phillips does this week in week out. One of the very worst interviewers, incredible Sky allow him on screen. What a joke.
