It is not the defeat of Ukraine by Russia that will seal the fate of the West, meaning the fate of the USA, but the defeat of the US by Russia in the EU leading to the demise of NATO that is very much on the cards as a result of Putin's real war objectives and one of the reasons the Russians have been slow-walking the war in Ukraine until father Winter could have his say in the EU as well as providing Russia with an advantage in the war in Ukraine.

And no, Ukraine doesn't have to win, as long as Putin loses. That Europe may be headed into a depression worries the hawks in DC not a bit. They and their own are insulated from the chaos, even if it spreads to America. Besides, it's all worth it if it solves the "Russia problem" for decades to come. They see this as a golden opportunity, a chance in a generation. Other than the unexpected resilience of the Russian economy, things are going pretty much according to plan.

I love the way you say that the west is going to lose the war when the west isn't even fighting it yet. Russia is staking all it's might against Ukraine without trying to compromise it's border security, it has no reserves or equipment to counter all of the forces the EU can rouse if the EU decides that Russia is simply a threat, they cannot tolerate. Russia only has a tiny population of 140 million in comparison to Europe's 600 million that alone means Russia loses, you can argue that Europe doesn't have enough oil, well simple fact is Europe does have Oil it's just more expensive because it's not being piped in from Russia which is very cheap. As for the Economy of the EU, nothing restarts the fire in the heart of an economy like a war, weapons need to be manufactured, ships built, ammo produced and with the EU having had the better part of a year to wake from it's slumber and find alternatives to Russian oil and gas Russia would fall like a house of cards if the EU decided to enter Ukraine. On day one they could blockade all Russian ports on the west side of the country, if America got involved then they could blockade the ports on the east leaving Russia with no ports and no economy. There's a lot less infrastructure in Russia to target in comparison to the west and Russia simply doesn't have the ammo, manpower or equipment to fight Europe or NATO.

The western russophobic narrative is based on the fake conception that Russia, after defeating Ukraine will go on eastwards, threatening and invading the rest of eastern european countries. Of course this is completely imaginative. Russia has no such strategic goals.
So if and when the war in Ukraine ends, and Russia starts to regroup, reorganize and rebuild its economy, its social fabric etc and these potential 'russian threat' proves to be just a 'boogie man' then the pressure will be shifted to the western mainstream propaganda mechanisms to: a) Prove that Russia has indeed plans of invading Europe, b) Prove that the persistence of the economic war of the West against Russia with the sanctions etc, which has already backfired against the european nations, is necessary and effective.
A possible peace treaty under the current circumstances, would put the west also under pressure. But there might be some political factions in US administration which prioritize at least a period of fragile ceasefire than to let the war drag on and the situation become even more dire for the ukrainians.
