Stylosa On The FRUSTRATING State Of Overwatch 2 Development

Having been in Overwatch since its very beginning, Stylosa is one of the most prolific, most-watched, and most outspoken personalities in Overwatch.

Incredibly well versed in the history of the game and having worked both in the esport with London Spitfire and created content around Overwatch at large, Stylosa has a unique viewpoint to share.

We sat down with him during a difficult time for the game, just a couple of days after the six-year anniversary. Viewership numbers are at an all-time low for Overwatch, the beta is offline much to the dismay of its player base, and the wider gaming community is celebrating Overwatch’s perceived all-time low.

  1. With how much work they are putting into overwatch 2 compared to overwatch 1, I almost wish that they would just release overwatch 2 as it is, and continuously put out monthly updates like they should have been doing on overwatch 1

  2. On to the point of the spectating experience, Stylose talking about how it is difficult for new people to get a read on things is so true. Although no matter what, OW will always be difficult to understand because of the fact that these little intricacies are what was supposed to make it unique, however it could possibly be explained to the people. I thought back to how the NFL do some of their highlight reviews in between quarters where they go back on a play, give you a step-by-step on what's going on or what is about to happen with highlighters, and explain to you the brilliance of said play. Imo this means that there needs to be more 3rd person viewpoints and fancy camerawork, especially when considering that 5v5 is way more faster, plus I think it could be more entertaining because there are far too many great plays that are missed or glanced over

  3. This was such a great video. Yiska, you have done a great job with this content and your questions are we'll thought out. Sty, I admire your passion for this game. This was extremely insightful.

  4. the sound is not more readable at all, and this is a big deal, for all players. It needs to work and not just be some nonsense sprinkled over the gameplay. The game can feel random and hearing sounds accurately is as important as graphical fidelity, if not more important. one of my biggest gripes with OW1 that i really expect to be fixed or largely improved in 2. (or else??)

  5. I've been playing OW for a few years just about every night with a dedicated, rotating crew of about 20 players. Most of those players received beta access. Every one of us hates the change to 5v5 and the Push mode. Its been VERY lonely in OW since the beta launched…

  6. 1:31:35 That's the thing though, Overwatch was fundamentally built from the ground up to be casual. The major problem was when they decided to heavily push esport after people really wanting a competitive mode, and they only added that after release because people wanted it, and they didn't have the time for it in the beta. So now we have had this game that is built towards casual gameplay being forcefully warped into this casual/competitive mess. It was built to have as many of one character as you wanted. A full team of Winston? Yea, the game was built with that in mind. Changing the core of the game after every hero has been set in stone for release could only lead to this messy outcome.

  7. 1:29:47 this is what really annoyed me when I first started watching the OW2 pro matches, in other games like valorant and even paladins when it had an official league you could learn a lot about how the game works through what the casters say. Those games have more down time to actually explain stuff which makes the watching experience much more enjoyable.

  8. At Feyenoord we have several players from Rotterdam which the fans really love. Think Paris 2020 was perfect, mix of French and Korean players. But also love a extremely mixed team like Gladiators.

  9. Killed DF for me. No shield tank, means chokes are going to be aweful. If every map no longer has chokes then maybe it will work.

Best thing about Df was jumping in killing a dps or healer and trying to get out alive. Now hes just going to be a non pick or a troll tank pick.
