‘Straight face’: Defence Minister slammed over Red Sea ADF debacle

Sky News contributor Steve Price says Defence Minister Richard Marles today claimed with a “straight face” Australia would triple its ADF contribution to the Red Sea, “from five people, to 16”.

“To prove my point at what weak leadership looks and sounds like, I give you Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles,” Mr Price said.

“Marles, with a straight face – claimed we were tripling our military assets in the region – from five people, to 16.

“Marles then labelled it a significant contribution – are we watching an episode of … Yes Minister?

“Surely this bloke doesn’t even believe this stuff himself.”

  1. The muppet Marles is the man that gives China a heads up before saying something critical. A dumbarse woke rendered useless that has been using the airforce as his personal transport. The Labour Party is full of ministers competing for the biggest loser award.

  2. We are so under equipmed militarily… because of a decade of LNP missed opportunities to get us protected. Sitting ducks, until the solutionist shares the way.
You said it yourself, why we aren't sending a vessel, because it would be lost to a $2000 drone. If we follow Dutton, we'll be 1 ship less in our defence if that Pacific threat you mentioned…the "C" word

  3. We have the ships and missiles. It costs a fortune to shoot down one drone though. 1 million per ESSM anti air missile on an Anzac Class for example. We still need to get our shit together and build a strong military.

  5. You Marles are a Joke … Your way out of your depth as Defence Minister, Marles has no idea whats going on … The face of Federal Labor in Australia is Way out of Touch, Marles is a man LOW Character … Kimberly Kitchin seeks support from Richard Marles due to Bullying from Wong and the Mean Girls. Richard Marles does NOTHING! … THats right NOTHING … Soon after Kimba leaves Marles office she kills herself. Marles refuses an inquiry, Wong Refuses an Inquiry and Buffoon Albaneze refuses an Inquiry…. This is Labor

  6. This Labour Government is a total JOKE. Bomber Beazley's Collins Class Subs have been an absolute disaster…. If we had retained the Oberon Class they would be now VERY old but at least they Worked and Submerge.
Australia's Defense Force overall is woefully inadequate …. and if the Chinese came throwing Fire Crackers we would be buggered.
Our troop's are ready for a fight BUT their numbers need Bolstering, also Defense Equipment has to be brought up to World Standard plus numbers off.
We need to establish Defense Manufacturing here in Australia BECAUSE OUR SUPPLY LINES AR FAR TOO LONG

  7. I cannot stand the Labor Organised Crime party, but there is more to this than what we are seeing… Is there a war coming soon and we are holding back our forces, or has the Labor government invested in billions into millions of useless, sponging, illegal blowins and decimated our forces with no financial flow on.

  9. Sky is zionist funded so of course they will critisize Australian Government decision to stay away from this unjust war. Reality is israhell is murdering Palestinian civilians aka genocide. Australia should stay away from US complicity with genocide. Labor government is absolutely right in not sending ships to the red sea☝️Houthis said they will open red sea once israhell stop murdering Palestinians, simple ☝️

  10. Australias defense forces has always been a Schmoozel, there was never a plan to buy or build a replacement aircraft carrier, let alone continue building bigger and better submarines after building the Collins class, everything is slap dash, and that will do, our warships are ill prepared for long deployments because they have little fire power, they are there to look good

  11. Operation Prosperity in the Red Sea is touted by the USA stating that “more than 20 countries have agreed to participate” These include the navies of the US, UK, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and the Seychelles have been announced. So that’s 10 countries. Why aren’t we hearing about the other 10? If they’re touting the Seychelles which has a minuscule navy, could it be that the other 10 are even smaller?
