  1. Just starting the video but in Slay the Spire campfire are really important not for the healing but for upgrading cards.
If you have trouble with the game then yes they can save your run by healing
but if you're doing well then they help by upgrading your cards instead making you overall stronger
so in the long run you want to improve at the game so that ideally you use them for upgrading instead of healing, powering up in the long run.

In a way it's similar to soul in Hollow Knight. Beginner will use it to heal while experts and speedrunner will use it to rain devastation on enemies with magic.

  2. Thank you so much for giving our game a try! 🙂 Super appreciate the feedback as well – given that Soul Stalker is mostly feature complete, we're going to spend the next 6 months – 1 year just adding as much fresh content as possible (new weapons, trinkets, enemies, etc). That's partially why the current runs are on the short end, the demo only includes act 1 of 3 😉

Really liked a few of your ideas regarding how to make runs more unique, and regarding how much market research is done before a dev makes a game like this – I probably have 100h+ on the genre as a whole, and 60 of those are only on Brotato! Lots of this game's inspiration (such as being able to wield multiple weapons) is based on it 🙂 This is more of a case of me just enjoying the genre and wanting to make something in it than market research, but playing stuff in general definitely helps!
