Thank you for this tidbit, I had ventured off of the beaten path but when you mentioned the "beginning of the story" that put me back on the main quest and sure enough the "secret outpost" dropped. I am now the proud owner of the ship and all it's glory, also thanks for that exploit tip :). Luckily I had expert lock picking and was able to grab all of the safes, current level 7.

What happens to your first ship after youve taken the new ship? Does it stay on that planet or does it go to a dock somewhere? Ive just started playing this game and im really struggling with it.
Can you sell your old ship? Or do you just leave it on the planet? And don’t you have to return it to Barret?
I can't even get past the damned ships in orbit, I'm level 14, I have upgraded my ship, but level 30, 4 shots. I'm dead, can't even land
This ship way worse than my default one. I don't think ppl realize you can just cheaply upgrade your stats on your ship. Without having to buy or create new ship

no normal functioning person cares. this game is such a joke i feel bad for anyone that spent money on it, and the worst part is they didnt hide it so its people's choice to pay for something so damn bad, the only game you can compare this to which actually had better gaming mechanics is FREELANCER

My mantis set disappeared when i edited my ship, I had a bunch of stuff in the armory and it all got scrapped when i removed that part of the ship, great bug…..
Well crap… I've never seen a "Secret Outpost!" slate, and I've looted every enemy or corps so far. I'll keep grinding away.
i donr have any secret outpost in notes. You aren't really specific on how to get it. Something about looting enemies???
FYI : If you save before picking up the armor and you don't like the stats, reload and see what the new armor rolls. Edit: While I played around with the difficulty, I didn't really notice an increase in chance for better armor stat rolls on very hard vs very easy. This is a subset of one however, so take this with a grain of salt.
I was told you can save before opening the case for the suit, and reload if you don’t like the modifications that are on it.

Does the armor / ship's power correlate with your level? I know that was a thing in Skyrim where if you get a unique item early on it won't be as strong as if you got it at max level.

What happens to your old ship? When you leave in the new one, you leave the old one there. So do you always trade one ship for another one?
I'm comming from Star Citizen and there you can just claim a ship when you need it and it's somewhere else. Does Starfield has a system like that too?
Looks like I'm starting over a third time. Already did the mission where bodies have a chance to drop the notes. I swear I checked everyone that was dead (looking for picks and whatnot) but I do not have those notes. Worth doing it again for that ship though. I was only at lvl 8 anyway.
Edit: So I went back to a lvl 1 save and when I got the correct mission and found the note, I went and got the ship and armor. Thanks so much for this!

I highly recommend to anyone reading this, that once you get to the mantis outfit case, save your game and then open the case and if its not good stats then simply reload your save and keep trying until you get a god roll. Because of this I have 305 carry capacity and loads more o2.

Even low level ships were rocking my ass with the frontier and I didn't want to dump a bunch of time super early into ship building and was really hoping for a good upgrade to at least get me through the early/mid game while I spend my time questing and exploring.

I wish you could transmog the space suits in this game. That Mantis suit has epic stats, but looks like ass, lmao. That ship is awesome though!
