(Nth Review #22) Bethesda finally makes its space game, to mixed reception. Is it truly worth the backlash? Will people shut up about Emil Pagliarulo? Who knows.

  1. The loading screen comment, you missed out the worst one, Astral Lounge elevator. The second floor is always reachable with a boost pack.

Your comment about the penthouse was on point. The game feels too safe. Nothing about it is meaningful and unfortunately it came out at a time when multiverse is being done to death in mainstream media so the new game + doesn’t even feel too rewarding. This game lacks balls

  2. It's a pretty wonderful example of how LITTLE metacritic averages can mean when you consider Fallout New Vegas (one of the best designed, written and most immersive RPG's of all time) and Starfield (the literal definition of mediocrity) share a nearly identical score. Truly absurd, and shows how much hype cycles, developer legacy, engine fatigue and corporate politics factor into scores.. New Vegas superficially looking like a reskinned Fallout 3 definitely dragged the scores way down for the reviewers dumb enough to not know the difference between good and bad writing and RPG mechanics

  3. Before I even start the video, I note the use of the word "Fine"
I personally use that word when someone asks if I'm okay "I'm fine, thanks" but actually everything is going to sh*t!!

Fine is NOT an encouraging word . . .

  4. There are definitely very talented developers behind this game, but it has terrible direction, scope and an absolutely frankenstein of an outdated engine.
That last part is what makes me worried about TES VI.

  5. Something I loved about Morrowing is the way it tackled the Fast Travel problem. Well, it didn't have fast travel. But it had something MUCH better. Public transportation. Between the boats, the Silt Striders and the teleportation you could ask in the mage guilds of Vvardenfell, fast travel was something diegetic, grounded, and not a "I win button". You still had to explore, you still had to walk, even to get back to somewhere you already went, and that was amazing.

And no quest markers. If you had to go somewhere, you needed to follow the instructions given to you by the quest giver. Like "follow the river until you come across a bridge. There, go right, walk until the dead tree, and you'll find the cave where the bandits are".

So, I too was infuriated by the inclusion of fast travel and quest markers in Oblivion. It felt like they wanted to make their game more of a checklist of things to do (and a video game, instead of a coherent universe), and ultimately, it felt like they tried to dumb it down, which was very sad.

And, yeah, it didn't get any better with each release. Now, they created a game where you cannot travel WITHOUT fast travel…

  6. Just a comment on the obsidian bonus thing. It wasn't part of the contract obsidian took to make New Vegas, while yeah it sucks they weren't able to get it, it was offered to them by Bethesda as a bonus outside of the contract they signed that they were not obligated to even offer. Chris avellone wrote about this in a medium article.

  7. A tip with stealth gameplay: Most people forget that your giant bulky spacesuit is only HIDDEN, not UNEQUIPED, when wandering in urban areas, so when you're doing the Ryujin espionage quests you need to go to your inventory and unequip your spacesuit and you'll notice how it's easier to sneak around.

  8. I (sorta) get if you like the game, but why the need for you guys to try to justify why others don't like it (it's clearly a let down across the board). Rather than focus on whatever you got outta the game??

  9. So far approaching 800 hours, for me it’s a near ultimate role playing in space. Fact is all negative comments on steam come from the inherently toxic PC gamer community that simply cannot be satisfied. I rarely pay attention to any PC gamer based review. They’re inconsequential to me and have zero validity. Yes it has some minor glitches and bugs. I loved how Bethesda first patched glitches that forced gamers to actually play for funds. Another reason I find Starfield great is that there is a map for support and fixes although seemingly just not on the schedule of the cry baby PC gamer community. Then there’s my age. My first game system was Oddesy. Then Atari. Vic 20, Commodore 64 then on to first gen public PC. A 12 mhz wonder with a 10mb hard drive. So I have watched the game community evolve from nothing and non existent to the toxic crying base it is today. Biggest frustration so far has been the fact that Bethesda is actually intertwined in another Fallout 76 type debacle with their Constellation Editions and the watches being non functional junk out of the box. Still have about 2 hours to go in your video. Playing on a Series X console and 47 in 4k tv for monitor.

  10. In my opinion, I enjoyed Starfield it's an 8 out of 10 for me. It's nothing special like their past games. However, it does have an amazing amount of potential. Hopefully, we will see where Starfield takes us in a sequel twenty years from now, lol.

  11. I always feared at somepoint bethesda would keep making their game worlds bigger and bigger while becoming more shalllow. At somepoint it will get to a point it barely reaches your ankles. I don't think starfield is at that point yet, but it's getting there.😊

  12. "Starfield is good enough." This my opinion. The game is a 7.5/10. Decent, but not great. IMO. On the other hand, with the Creation Kit and standard Bethesda level modding, this game will be likely be good to awesome in a couple of years. And hey, if you don't enjoy it, nobody is forcing you to play it.

  13. I thought it was an extremely bland and ununspired game, and this is feom someone who loves Bethesda's games, and has been wanting an expansive space-faring game for a long time.

There os just nothing in the game that feels compelling at all. It is all disjointed, with all its gameplay systems, lore and storyline not supporting itself in the slightest. It was such a let-down. My only hope is that they relase the Creation Kit soon, and people can at least attempt to recover the game. :/
