I don't see an issue with this review. It's critical yes, but it's thorough and at least goes into it rather than just "yay skyrim space game 9/10"
obv ign usa score lower because not enough gay
The problem with the gaming world u have these small or sometimes big group of self entitled brats that thinks every game should be released perfectly with no bugs and with nothing that needs to be fixed or reworked. In the end It’s those same people that r complaining r spending mommy and daddy’s money buying the game lol
The more I see of this the more I want to play No Mans Sky… Theres barely any actual "space" travel and shit in this "space/planet exploration" game. Or Should i say Menu Travel.
The IGN totally out to lunch review , heavily biased for generic space sim , space puzzles , and the 5 min shooter that offers instant gratification , they completely left out the amazing dialog , characters , locations , crafting , building , exploration , factions , in depth story , and your own personal play style
Starfield isn't perfect ! , if it was nobody would have anything to complain about ! , 9/10
16 times the re-skin
A 7/10 is actually a little high. Granted, my save just broke on me, so now I've got to restart from scratch. It's a problem in my case with just one mission not updating the progression. So, without spoiling anything the mission has you head to your ship, then after some dialog with someone you did the mission with, it tells you to take off from (redacted) city. But once I enter orbit, it still wants me to take off from (redacted) city. I've restarted my game, my Xbox, and even rolled back my save 2 whole missions. I just keep getting to this point and getting stuck in orbit. I can't do anything, and my crew is getting on my nerves. Now I know why they added a New game+ mode. We'll never get to use it.
can’t believe ign gave true honest review
Everyone upgrade a ship asap, I slept on it and regretted it.
Remember that there is an embargo by certain people to shit on this game, and they will find all they can to diss on it. This is why I said this will NEVER be a multi-player game, something some people are so adamant about. It's a personal single-player story. This is NOT a NMS game! This is a Bethesdah Single-Player RPG.
My only gripe so far is exactly known locations like the major cities should have a map. That I think was lazy on their part. I don't know how often I accidentally pushed the map button to remember it won't help me at all. Luckily now there are already interactive maps on the internet for these major locations, but I still wish they would be in the game. I mean from a role-playing perspective you would obviously have maps for all the known locations in the systems. It is more about being able to trek where I've been and not miss quests than anything else.
Inventory is my other gripe. They make unrealistic decisions about resources put in cargo on any ship available at any research station, but they feel they have to be realistic with in combat inventory? Cmon seems lazy to me. They certainly need to work on the micromanagement of inventory. It's just not fun having to consistently move things around to not become overencumberant. This is 2300s with light speed travel, and you can't move your resources directly to your ship's cargo? It's not about realism, it's about having FUN!
It is a solid 7/10. It is a decent game. The spaceship mechanics suck a lot. For me most games are 2-4 out of 10.
You seriously can’t compare no man’s sky to starfield, for one when no man’s sky was not even released yet when development stated in starfield so they really didn’t have that to compare their game to. Secondly no man’s sky is a great game but let’s not forget it was a ROUGH game to play in the beginning. And there are still loads of areas in no man sky that are just barren empty places with no one else around and nowhere near the character customization, progression, and the feeling of true lived in worlds like starfield has with that bethesda flavor to them. It’s like if you took Skyrim and fallout and put it in space. I’ve enjoyed my time thus far and haven’t been able to stop playing.
IGN review summed up. “I never played Bethesda games so probably shouldn’t have reviewed this game I want more puzzles in an already complex game with tons of systems and it’s not no mans sky.
7/10 because Im mad about no breath of the wild puzzles and that I can’t play it like no man’s sky”
I agree with a lot of his points but a 7? There is so much here that that’s too low.
There is no way this game is a 10. Also for FO4 and Skyrim you can only fast travel to most locations after finding them on foot first.
I not downing the game. I am mostly enjoying Starfiled. Just really depressed that exploration was so emphasized, only to be mostly non existent. As is, it's basically fast travel, talk to boring npc, fast travel, ad nauseum.
I know what they are saying. You fast travel to small maps instead wandering upon things. So it feels small. The best part of their other Open Worlds is when you walk you stumble upon things that surprise you. It satisfies wanderlust. This doesn't. That being said the story is engaging enough that it does constantly edge you forward. As an RPG it is amazing. As an open world it doesn't feel open. What no one is talking about is how amazing the music is. It makes you feel like you are in a great Sci Fi film!
IGN is long known to be an anti XBox. A lot of these lower reviews are coming from Sony Fanboys trying to review bomb the game. The fact that even after all this that Starfield has a 88 score is pretty solid. The score will increase over time. This game is not meant to be a No Mans Sky or a Elite Dangerous. This game is more like Mass Effect in my opinion. I do not mind the slow burn on this game because it is giving me time to really learn how the game mechanics works. Even though I only have around 30 hours right now I can see the slow burn claim. I don't have an issue with this. I do agree that it seems that doing a lot of the modifications and more elaborate base building will not take place till you get to your mid 20 levels or higher depending on how you spend your skill points.
this game looks like standard trash from Bethesda. not buying it!
I can't believe people even listen to ign anymore let alone even post the scores they put out
IGN will do anything for attention. Probably nothing more to it than that.
errr …You cant fast Travel to anywhere in Skyrim or fallout ……You have to first to gone there on foot to open up that ability to go back there ……HUGE DIFFERENCE ….
People who fast travel have ADHD
This game is incredible. It's got a more realistic sci-fi map where you see the area topographical. Its not seamless like NMS but unlike NMS it has life, depth, and a great story. I'll take the characters and story and quests of Starfield over NMS seamless space shit any day.
Idk, I’d have to agree with the 7/10 – space game with minimal space flight, no map so now I have to memorize 1000 planets layouts. Would love to see space flight like no mans sky or Dyson sphere program. Needs more autonomy with space flight and exploration, I don’t mind fast travel; but why not have to explore and fly to new zones before unlocking fast travel… it’s all cutscenes. also needs more density of mobs / creatures in planets.
This has been an issue with mostly all Bethesda games… Weapon Variety.. Can't wait for mods to fill out weapon variety
I don't trust IGN whatsoever. With the latest Twisted Metal show IGN let someone who has never played a Twisted Metal game review the show. So yeah they just let anyone who doesn't necessarily enjoy that genre make reviews. Sloppy and lack of leadership. That's how IGN America does it.
I'm loving this game I'm only 17 hours in and it's still amazes me
Thanks for all your work, Dantics. I am having a ball in Starfield.
I actually welcome the small shortcuts they took. My main problem with no man's sky was having to micromanage everything about your ship. Getting fuel after constantly consuming it etc. Starfield gives you the choice of getting right to the combat without having to wait a long time.
you should't be forced to learn city – learning city should be preference and map should be available and easily readable. I agree with minus points for fast-travel, spaceship is basically playable loading screen and in fact cannot fly anywhere, which is weird. It's maybe fun for what it is but it's definitely not what they again said it's gonna be, most of planets are just empty. it's definitely not a best game, 7/10 seems to me appropriate. I don't see IGN review to be off or bias whatsoever and I don't take seriously anyone who gives it 10/10, that's a joke, it''s not 10/10 nor 9, not even close. positives outweight negatives does not make em disappear, 9-10/10 is literally a cope for starfield.
Starfield is alive no man sky is like a kid game with a universe that makes no sense and all the NPCs are bland and boring
LOL, why would Forbes being confused about a video game review score mean anything significant. It's a financial mag. I'm not saying the 7 was justified, but that was a weird take. "FORBES DISAGREES!"
7/10 means for that reviewer the good did outweigh the bad. I’m still in first 15 hours but 7/10 doesnt seem that off. I find that to be an adequate score for games in general and for me the game is feeling like that so far.
I like it but it’s impossible not to think about NMS and how immersive it is. If exploration wasn’t going to be fleshed out, then why bother with “1000 planets,” when even the major ones feel so empty. Just tell me a planet is too dangerous rather than I can go there and find nothing on it. I would have rather have had a few solar systems with a handful of planets that actually had a lot of exploration.
I think expectations for a NMS game with a Bethesda RPG on top is something Bethesda tried to squash early on but it didn’t matter.
I’m having fun and I’m still playing it which says a lot for me but right now a 7/10 is actually a reasonable score that critically looks at the faults of just poor game design rather than throwing high scores at a game because of some of the things it gets right. With Skyrim and Oblivion, those games felt like 8-9/10 out the gate.
