I wasted way too much money cause I got hyped. Hope this time I learned the lesson. And it's not entirely bad but it's definitely not worth that much money. Also about the weight, if you sell any ship all the items loose in it will transport to your backpack. That's why you gain so much weight all the time, cause all of a sudden you have 45 plates in your pocket because it was decorates in a cupboard xD
dancing? what? this isn't fortnite
I have had only 1 bug that required a console command with over 200 hours of gameplay. Dunno why you got so many.
xbox fanboys are offing themselves on this hill btw
14 teraflops and 25 years later and this Bethesda game is still acting Bethesda. lol
This is one of the only AJS reviews I disagree with. Sure, the game could use more polish, but it’s still way less buggy than most Bethesda releases at launch, and if you count Obsidian games, it’s drastically (by thousands of miles) less buggy than Fallout New Vegas was… which was horribly broken for the first week of its release and unplayable, and took a full month to get patched into being just decent. It took like a year for that game to be great, but few people seem to remember this, even though it made frequent news.
My first point… The procedural generation of planets isn’t even that much of a fault. The amount of unique and non-procedural areas are incredibly vast and frequent when going through missions. The existence of these “fishbowl” generations on every planet is really just a bonus addition, because without them you still have so much to explore. With them, however, you get some decent (not great) exploration and grinding opportunities for legendary gear, and that not a fault, it’s a mechanic for replay, and shooting things is always fun to me. Add in the awesome gun customization, and you’ve got a good time on your hands for experimenting.
Another poor point in this review is the facial animations, which feels like targeted cherry picking. Starfield does have a few facial animations that are not too great, but then there are some really good ones (Sarah, Sam Coe, Walter Stroud, etc). It’s not Red Dead 2 good but it’s definitely not like ME: Andromeda and certainly not worse. That was not a good comparison and detracted from the point and authenticity of the review… And speaking of Mass Effect, not being able to dance in the clubs in Starfield was also a lackluster point, especially when compared to Mass Effect’s incredibly boring short little pointless dance you could do (not fun at all), so really, who cares…? ME could have left that out and it wouldn’t have made a single shred of difference, tho I’d argue that it could make ME better because there’s nothing to be disappointed by.
The thing that this game really suffers from is comparison points: “Compared to this… compared to that… in comparison, etc.” And that can really go both ways too. Carrying capacity complaints… Have you played Skyrim? This is better. Clunky menu and item organization… Have you played Skyrim? This is better. Uninteresting enemy variety? Have you played Skyrim? This is better. Skyrim had giants and dragons, everything else was people and easy AF to kill animals that were essentially just frequent nuisances. There are a lot of improvements that Starfield made to the Fallout/Skyrim formula that people are just refusing to recognize. Maybe y’all play with mods too much? Lol! But on the flip side, there as some criticism here that really don’t matter… Can’t name saves? Who cares, very few games let you do this. People don’t flip out when you pull out a gun and shoot off a few rounds into a wall? Good, that’s a nice quality of life improvement that makes misclicks no big deal. Can’t fast travel while encumbered? Elder Scroll 3, 4, 5, plus Fallout 3, NV, 4, and Outer Worlds (which required a level up perk to fast travel while encumbered) all had this limit. It’s a basic aspect of these games! Vendors don’t have a lot of money? SERIOUSLY?! Have you never played a single other Bethesda game?!
Can’t fly to a planet without jumping/loading it…? That point hinges entirely on the existence of No Man’s Sky, which isn’t even that great of a mechanical functionally in the game, whereas most space games don’t do this because traveling would take long AF or the distance between planets would have to be unrealistically short. Far too many of the points in this review boil down to making a mountain out of a molehill. Most of all, I can’t help but feel like Starfield is being touted negatively because there was this mystic hype after all these years of waiting for a new Bethesda IP, but no matter what they put out, the hype would inevitable surpass the possibilities… and now everyone is living in this fantasy world where their nostalgia wiped their memories clean of what Bethesda games were like at launch (vs) how they turn out down the road.
I’m 192 hours in, still having fun with it, barely encountering bugs, never yet seeing one that breaks the game or missions, and it’s mechanically quite sound. I know Joe said that the amount of playtime doesn’t matter when defending a game, but we’re on equal footing here, that’s my point. Do people have some problem? Sure, can’t deny that. But even to this day, Skyrim has random goofy bugs, and seriously, what’s a Bethesda game without them? Lol! It’s definitely not Skyrim in space (which was annoyingly buggy AF during its release month), and it’s more so Fallout in space. But I’ve honestly got fewer problems with Starfield than Fallout 4 (IMO, Fallout 3 was peak Fallout enjoyment), in which Fallout 4 was finally worth playing after all its DLC was added.
If you’re on the fence, definitely give Starfield time. With what they have now, improvements will certainly refine the game to being really truly great (something that Bethesda does all the time with every game release, including Skyrim). From finally finishing the main story, and now in NG+, I’d give Starfield a 7.5/10. Comparatively, I’d have given Fallout New Vegas like a 2/10 on its release week, and a 5.5/10 a month later, but after awhile it became an easy 8/10. It’s sad that things work this way, even between varying games/companies… I’m looking at you Cyberpunk, and don’t think I’ve forgotten about you either No Man’s Sky (both of which were drastically worse at launch than Starfield, but many seemed to change your minds on them these days).
Wow. I was so hyped about this game . Now im just concerned about it being a repeat of Bethesda's last two launch🙁
Mods will make this game better. But that's really not a great thing to boast about
Starfield feels like its barely populated. Idc how dense u make the crowds setting, it feels like random townships all over space.
After all the HUGE lies Todd Howard said about Fallout 76, and after all the problems
Fallout 3 had, and very dated graphics, and the Fallout 4 had all the same problem as
Fallout 3, and then Fallout 76, that had all the same problems but even much worse.
We still gone believe anything this man says????
2 years of mods/patches and it'll be close to an 8/10. VR would really help too.
The googly eyes return!
13:40 I had that too but I became a criminal cause I accidentally pressed a button which made me shoot 1 little round at a space ship… something that happened cause I was skipping dialogue xD
Finally some real reviews 😂. I dont understand people who said this game should be GOTY😂. We live in dire era.
I wish I sold my cd-key when I pre-ordered my Framework laptop. 🙁
I have a ps5, series x, and a switch and I could care less for brand loyalty. I like to play exclusives without being limited to one console. Each console has pros and cons, you can enjoy all the games in the meantime. It’s sad when you see grown adults doing the console war. Let people enjoy whatever games they like.
Oh I said plenty of bad things and no one gave me shit. Explore thousands of planets and they only have 100.
It really seems to me like you described a 3/10, not a 6/10. I think you’re giving it too much credit. You’ve lowered the bar, maybe.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one horrified BY THE GIANT EYES AND WEIRD FACES!
76 is way better than Starfield
Thats how you know its lackluster when Mass Effect Andromeda is a better game than this.
