Kira can't help but shack up with Bajoran VIPs. Seems any famous Bajoran man who comes to the station ends up with her. Will she ever expand that to the most famous of Changelings in the Alpha Quadrant, or a certain famous Cardassian?
Damar is a character to remember.
26:46 DAMAR 🎉🎉🎉
this is also the first episode of damar, another underrated character.
Love the Bowie shirt. Have you seen Stardust (2020) the "Ziggy Stardust" biopic about early David Bowie's inspiration for his alter-ego stage persona. It would be great for a reaction, but full of copyrighted music that would need edited out.
CONTINUITY & PRODUCTION ERRORS
CROSSFIRE (IMDb Rating: 8.2)
3:17 Shakaar arrives in a Wadi ship. (Move Along Home)
3:56 You mean "last name basis", don't you Ollie?
7:40 Here's one I found myself:
After Kira says Odo's belt looks "much" better, she mouths "I guess I'll turn in". You can barely hear her. (not in this edit)
Did they forget to ADR her dialogue here, and also when she says "goodnight"?
18:06 After Quark thanks Odo for soundproofing the floor, Kira and Shakaar sit at a table. Shakaar's earring is missing. (not in this edit)
Maybe they weren't "practicing speeches" in the holosuite after all. 😉
RETURN TO GRACE (IMDb Rating: 7.3)
29:13 The phasers look like they hit the Klingon ship from underneath, yet that's not where the Klingons appear to be on Dukat's viewscreen.
The Bird of Prey was also hit while it's shields were down, yet when it passes overhead, there is no sign of any damage.
Dukat's phasers really suck.
I guess Odo and Kira are the Ross and Rachel of DS9.
I met Mark Alaimo at first Star Trek Destination convention in London. I got an autograph on a photo of Dukat – BUT I asked him to write my favourite Dukat quote first then sign it. The quote is "War is such thirsty work. Don't you agree?" he refused because he thought he never said that. I assured him he did, and funnily enough we almost got into an argument, I stayed as polite as I could. Just before I gave up on it, he relented and just said something like "ok, well if that's what you want written…" It's funny now and to be fair, he was older than when he was on the show and appeared so… mentally, if you know what i mean. It led to a very memorable encounter with one of my favorite DS9 characters.
Worf is good enough?!?! You make me sad. 😥
I wouldn't say Odo was breaking off his friendship with Kira so much as he pulled back like you would your hand if you got burned. It was very much self preservation.
He even "went back to basics" at the end.
The whole "pineapple"thing is an interesting visual choice. There was a time when having a pineapple at a party as a centerpiece was such a status symbol that the fruits were rented out by the hour!
After WWII, Hawaii became a state and pineapples became more of an import people could easily afford and now anyone can have them.
So ho eat a pineapple (but not on pizza!).
Being umpredictable in your schedule is a good counter to terrorrists actually, they usually need a fixed plan for their plan to work out.
Dukat the Pirate ! So badass. However, I understand Kira not wanting to be with him. She knows he wants to get into her pants to be honest…
There's is more than one episode that starts with "day to day morning routine" and Kira's coffee 🙂 They're good ones! Even though I hate coffee 😛
"Wait this episode actually sucks." 😂😂😥😥♥♥
Dukat is such a fantastic character.
From a minor character to a major player, Damar is introduced.
Cheers for the reaction, Ollie. The first episode is pretty sad and relatable. I guess unrequited love is difficult, but for Odo to have to witness the emerging romance between Kira and Shakir must be awful. As you noticed, another theme is the relationship between Odo and Quark. It's a complex one that I don't feel DS9 ever really resolved. There seems to be genuine animosity, and yet sometimes compassion as well. I remember you didn't like Ferengi before watching some DS9, but it's hard not to adore Quark (despite his many flaws!)
Ollie, since you always see the episode thumbnails, i hope one of your Patreon folks have warned you about seeing the thumbnail for Season 5, episode 6. The thumbnail will probably give away a major spoiler. Maybe even the title is too much. You really need to have someone set that up and press play for you, otherwise your reaction may be completely spoiled.
Quark could have had his own moon by now, but no – he's a people person.
Crossfire has Odo in the end Backing away from Kira so she can go down her path with shakarand easing his pain not ending friendship just sticking to the essentials, as Odo says
Quark and Odo frenemies for life
You go ahead and keep wearing that Bowie shirt. It's great. Love Bowie!
Odo DOES look better with the belt
The name Shakaar reminded me of G'Kar from Babylon 5, which a lot of people say DS9 was based/ ripped off of. Babylon 5 was a great series, if you haven't seen it you should check it out.
This was the first appearance of Dumar, keep an eye on his character growth.
Are you planning on watching Star Trek Voyager?
The shirt was perfect. Who would more appropriate than David Bowie aka Ziggy Stardust, was the original Man Who Fell to Earth, sings Space Oddity, Spiders From Mars……he was before your time, but his but his image and words still remain. Although I must admit your rendition/cover of the DS9 theme is worth the wait! Seriously….it is.
"Crossfire" was the first DS9 episode I saw. I'd been a TNG fan for years, but DS9 always looked too different for me (hey, I was eleven when it debuted). I finally got these two episodes on VHS for my fifteenth birthday so had to give the show a go. Maybe it was because I was at "that age" when I had crushes on girls way out of my league, but I really identified with Odo. I quickly realised what I'd been missing and became a massive DS9 fan.
So interesting fact. By this point in the series, After Beriel was dead… The writers wanted Kira in a new relationship and were SERIOUSLY pushing for it to be Dukut. It was Nana Visitor herself you put a stop to it. She described it as "it would be like Anne Frank falling for Hitler, it was out of character and disgusting". So that's why we got Shakaar because she refused to go forward with being any friendlier to Dukut unless romance was off the table.
We just met one of the most important characters in later DS9 for the first time…
I sometimes call this season "Everybody Loves Kira."
Are u still in this star trek rabbit hole . Bye for now .
