Avery Brooks in the monologue really shows his Stage chops.
I think that In the Pale Moonlight is perhaps one of the most controversial episodes of DS9. It is the most representative episode of real life because the lines of clarity are blurred along with the lines of morality. Benjamin Cisco's decisions and actions directly led to the deaths of multiple people along with being a conspirator with Garek. As he's so famously said, that's why you came to me because I could do those things you couldn't. No truer words were spoken.

There are two camps. One says "In the Pale Moonlight" is the best episode in Trek. The other says it's the worst. And both are right. This is the episode that reveals what kind of fan you are. Are you all-in on Roddenbury's dream, where humanity is perfect and all vices are eliminated? Or do you see the truth as being that humanity will never BE perfect, but will always strive to be, and accept that good and bad go together?
Ur entirely to young to know who James Darren is. Lets just say that he had careers in acting AND singing LONG LONG ago. DS9 gave him an opportunity to bring his craft to a new audience and he took that opportunity to Level 10
Time Magazine puts it pretty succinctly why this episode is so memorable: "Captain Sisko hatches a complicated plan to fabricate evidence showing that the Dominion wants to conquer the Romulans. His aim is to bring the Romulans into the war on the Federation's side. As Sisko gives up his principles slowly, one by one, in order to make his plan work, you expect Trek's simple moral verities to prevail. It is dumbfounding, and chilling, when they don't."
Also the Vreenak actor, Steve McHattie is one of your fellow Canadians (like William Shatner) and he certainly left a strong impression.

Great acting by Avery Brooks my god when this aired we were all hooked on every word. Thanks for reacting to this episode you are cute catching up to us viewers who watched this many years ago.
RIP James Derran who plays the incomparable Vic Fontaine, he passed away just a few months ago.
'His Way' is such a great palate cleanser after the heaviness of 'Pale Moonlight'. 2 great episodes this week!

Starfleet might've authorised the conspiracy, but it didn't authorise Garak's murderous antics. That's the beauty of the episode: Sisko knows the whole truth, Starfleet doesn't.
DS9 is some of the best written Trek, but also where the darkness started to creep in more. We need something more hopeful to aspire to, particularly now.
It's not "five other people", it's one person (Vic) and 4 NPC's. He's the only sapient hologram there.
Ok, i'll be the one fan to talk about "My Way." I hate the Odo-Kira relationship. I would have rather had his unrequited love remain. Don't get me wrong, romance could be great in some media. It just seems forced here, and their characters have an awkward romantic chemistry. — That said, James Darren (Vic) was a real singer. Popular teeny bopper singer in the 50s. Also did some acting for much of his career, including a couple seasons of TJ Hooker with Shatner.
The only episode where I question Sisko;s decision making
A one – two punch of cosmic proportions.
The Romulans schemed to try to takeover the Klingon Empire. They schemed to takeover Vulcan. I don’t feel sorry for them for being manipulated into joining the Dominion War.

Widely considered to be the best Star Trek episode ever. There's not even really any strong contenders that have similar support for that title.

It's also good trek because you often time hear how Romulans split off of vulcans because they did not want to get rid of their extreme emotions but every time you see them they are calm and collected.
and then Vreenak hits you with IT'S A FAAAAAAKE! you can see the actor portraying that anger you'd expect from such a volitile race

In the Pale Moonlight is definitely a favorite. It is when Sisko fully commits to the ends justify the means, and offers a serious moral dilemma that is left for the viewers to judge, with valid arguments on all sides.
The full quote of "In the Pale Moonlight" comes from the original Batman film with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. The whole quote is "You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
It's very clear that the Devil is Garak in this situation and the dance is Sisko getting involved in something he truly and fully did not understand.
