STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Review – GAME OF THE YEAR?

STALKER 2 is nothing short of a marvel. The wait for GSC Game World series’ revival has been long and torturous – more so for the developer itself than any of us, given the circumstances it has had to endure behind the scenes – but against all odds, not only does this game exist, it’s also unequivocally excellent.

Its genre-bending antics pull together staples of open world, survival horror, and immersive sim experiences together into a cohesive whole that’s unlike anything else. Stellar emergent open world gameplay, terrifying and potent horror, an incredibly immersive and detailed open world, and engrossing player-driven storytelling combine in one of the year’s best games. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is occasionally let down by its many technical issues at present, but the game itself is spectacular.

  1. Ive got a few hours in it now, and im easily getting 120+fps at 1440p ultra wide. No bugs of any kind yet. Gameplay is super fun. If anyone is on the fence, get it on steam and refund if you dont like it. Im loving it so far.

  2. And this is whats wrong with these review channels now a days… how can a game receive a 9 when the reviewer himself states how buggy and border line unplayable the game is in its current state!!??? It’s better to not give it a score until fixed. SMH😢

  3. Game of the year? Lmao people were expecting Stalker 2.0 and they got the equivalent of what Fallout 4 was compared to New Vegas. The amount of leniency shown to this buggy mess is incredible. If the devs weren't Ukrainian this game would be getting 4s and 5s across the board.

  5. I'm honestly disappointed. I'll finish the game. Definitely no where near as enjoyable as GAMMA and is even more dumbed down than the previous games somehow, but it's STALKER I guess. Disappointment for sure.

  7. To those with the means but waiting for perfection—consider this:

This game could be the "Game of Your Life," one you’ll mod and love forever. But greatness needs support. By helping the developers now, while they’re still building, you could fuel their vision and turn potential into reality.

What if they’re on the brink of collapse, unable to finish without your help? Don’t wait for perfection—help create it.

  8. Whats with the blood around @4:56 ? Looks like red gas effects? And not a drop of blood decals?? Always takes me out of the experience when a game pushes realistic visuals but gets it wrong with blood/gore in games that warrant it.
PS. Maybe it wasnt a traditional weapon, as in maybe some wild physical force push weapon that shoots red mist but that def looks like a run of the mill db shotgun hah. Maybe an ammo type?

  9. Ive been addicted to Stalker games for years. Not too concerned about initial bugs and control issues as i remember the absolute state Cyberpunk was at launch. Its near perfect these days.

  10. GOTY?????? lmaooooo Yeah ok. The framerate issues ALONE should bar this game from any awards right now. The complete framerate freezing and drops around populated areas are damn near game breaking. Gaming reviews have never been worse or more bias than ever before. This game runs like utter DOGSHIT. Is it fun? ABSOLUTELY. Is it good? Hell yes, but it does have game breaking framerate issues. This cannot be ignored. It's a big deal. 7 out of 10

  11. So far i'm loving this game especially the gun fights where your gun can jam at anytime.
I noticed when you knife glass it doesn't even make a shattering sound it just sounds stupid lol
Other than that i love how you can unload a gun from somewhere and take the bullets I find it interesting because it's my first time seeing this in a game. I never played any stalker games but i'm addicted i tell ya' 🤌

  12. I’m a big fan of the STALKER series, and this game has definitely met my expectations in almost every aspect. I’ve played for around 9 hours, and while I haven’t encountered any significant bugs or glitches, I did experience some frame drops that made the game unplayable. Restarting the game fixed the issue, though, and this only happened twice during my overall playtime. The developers are actively working on patches, so these issues should be resolved soon.

I absolutely love the game. However, for those who have never played a STALKER game before, it might take some time to get used to the mechanics, as the gameplay is slow-paced and requires patience. But that’s exactly what makes it a true STALKER experience. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase.

That said, calling it a "Game of the Year" contender? Not in its current state. Additionally, the game has a very specific player base, so it’s not going to appeal to everyone. I’ve already noticed this reflected in the comments.

  13. Game of the year…

So far I have had 2 guns randomly switch to different guns in inventory, a few different artifacts that would not spawn without MANY reloads. 1 even needed a fresh start of the game. The game crashes ALOT. I have crashed at least 20 times. I have tried so many of the various "fixes" for crashing online, and there are a lot of them, so it is not just me.

My PC is high end, it is not my hardware.

I want to love the game… but this game makes Bethesda games look like well oiled machines!
