STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Review

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl reviewed by Michael Higham on PC. Also available on Xbox Series X/S.

When it’s firing on all cylinders, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a rare treat that scratches the itch left behind by those older PC games, where the onus was on you to figure out how to survive and thrive in an unforgiving place that doesn’t care if you live or die. It’s refreshing, brutal, and a masterclass in creating a brooding atmosphere that I loved basking in, bringing new life to a place as tragic and desolate as The Zone. Once the main quest gained momentum, the choices I made and the work required to reach the end left me invested in a suspenseful story that builds on the ambitions of its predecessors. There are, however, foundational problems that are hard to ignore, like bizarre enemy behavior in combat and the many bugs and performance issues that persist after launch. But for those with the patience and determination required for a massive, intentionally inelegant shooter, those are inconveniences worth enduring; STALKER 2 is a gripping exploration of Chornobyl, and there’s just nothing like it.

  1. I gave the game a 4 out of 10 lol. Honestly, it's the worst game I've played in years. I uninstalled after 9 hours. I'm watching a lot of videos on it still because there is a lot that I like, and I plan to return after some patches. If you want to play a great post-apocalyptic series…then play the excellent Metro trilogy. Those games are so much better than Stalker.

  2. For people complaining about bugs, try out Stalker Gamma. It's considered the gold standard amongst Stalker fans. Takes a bit of setting up to do but there's a whole discord for it with people that would be happy to help you out.

  3. It's my first time playing any Stalker game too and i'm not disappointed. It was on game pass but i went and bought the trilogy bundle because games like these need to be supported.
I'm already like 6 hour in and i love it. It has like that Fallout, Skyrim and Borderlands open world type of feel with it's own style.
My cons so far would be loading time and for some reason my controller stick drifts both left and right at times randomly as if it does have stick drift when it definitely doesn't. I tested on other games and it only does it here, other than that this is a great game.

  4. Keep in mind folks, the team that is developing this game is actually living the game in real life except instead of mutants it's Russian soldiers. The constant evacs and worrying over family and friends I'm surprised they were able to get it to this state. Give them time to work these issues.

  5. People too young to remember the original? It was a bug fest until it was patched. Amazing game though. Can't wait to play this. I'll just hold off for a couple patches and jump in raw.

Actually kind cool story, but its walking from miles miles to get other pointci start not to care guns are cool, the graphics can be beautiful, awesome weather effects. It's a chore to play . Needs free fast travel at least to bases. Im done a waste of time. Dnt have patience to walk 30 mins trying to get to my story missions. Fk off

  7. Just finished the swamp section

I liked every single part of the game up until then.
I had to take a break from the game because it felt like a 2 hours slog of pure walking simulator thru those treacherous annoying ass swamps (that areas intense af too)

Everything before that section was 🤌🏽
