We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acre homestead. We just finished building our log cabin in 2018. Now we are focused on trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey we continue to develop our homestead and farm, while becoming more self sufficient.

  1. I have several breeds but the Sussex by far is my favorite. I promise you will love them! Very curious and personable. Each year their feather tips get a little whiter. Some of my older ones are almost 50% white. Murfreesboro Tn

  2. I ordered that garden planter a month ago and still haven't received it.. I know that it's not your fault, might mention to the viewer's that it'll take a minute to get it.

  3. Thanks for sharing with us Evan and Rebecca, glad you got those baby chicks. They are good looking chickens when they grow up. I watch them on the Mallard 5 channel too, they do a great job with their chickens and Children, 3 girls and soon to have a boy. Good people too. Stay safe and have fun. Fred.

  4. All vegetable seeds are non-GMO…..except field feed/oil corn and field feed/oil soy beans (sweet corn is 90% non-GMO) sugar beets, papaya, some potatoes, canola, some summer squashes. Sussex chickens are very cute but not the best good egg layers.

  5. Rebecca loves her animals that's obvious, I'm surprised she doesn't have a harder time when freezer camp comes around. I bought one of the planting guides for my wife last go around. She seems to be happy with it.

  8. RECENTLY, I watched a vid about a commercial indoor greenhouse operation
and when asked about grow lights they reported that over the years they have
tried all the different color grow lights there is and they have found that all
plants grow best with white 5000K led workshop lights. They found these lights
in fact emit all the different light frequencies of all the different colors of lights.

  9. I've had 10 black australorps for 4 years with great results. They keep us in 50-60 eggs a week. I just received some more this morning, but this time I ordered a straight run. I'm thinkin it wise to start breeding my own. Anything I can do to increase our independence can only be a good thing.

  13. You do know that baby chicks will find food and water in their own without dipping their beeks I am 75 and hatched and ordered checks for years and never dipped one beek in water. Can you think how much time it would take to dip 30 thousand beeks. I don’t know who started the dip thing but try some without dipping and see if there is a difference
