Spend the Day With Me as a NICU Mom

Spend a day with me as a NICU mom. Our daughter was born at 30 weeks in Alaska and here is what 24 hours looks like for me right now.

lactation cookies ( I substitute 1/2 cup peanut butter for half the butter in the recipe and prefer to use 2 cups mini chocolate chips) https://exclusivepumping.com/chocolate-chip-mm-lactation-cookies/

  1. My oldest daughter was 10 weeks early and was a NICU baby. That was 16 years ago, and things seem very different from then. I would have loved to have a private room. She was in a room with 5 other babies. We had our own private corner, but it was very noisy. Watching your videos about little Violet brings back memories from our NICU stay. You are 100% right about leaving your little girl. it's not natural. It broke my heart every time I had to leave my daughter. You and your family are in my prayers. Thank you for sharing Violets journey with all of us.

  2. Remind me again where her parents live . And are they going or least her dad staying did a bit longer before going back home . Or would her mom come or not ?? Does his parents or siblings come ? That’s good they both take turns seeing her and then being home with the kids .

  6. I recently learned that nighttime milk has natural melatonin in it and should be used at night to help baby regulate sleep. I never knew that with my five kiddos. I bet it would have helped with getting them to sleep better at night.

  7. Oh my goodness that little smile 😍 she is so beautiful and precious, it must be so hard to leave her but what a little fighter. I think you have an amazing family and how you all work as a team…. You’re all doing a fantastic job together and I’m sure it won’t be long before little Violet is home with you all xxx

  8. As a retired NICU RN, may I suggest that you bring home an extra baby hat for Miss Luna, so that she can get used to the baby's scent. People always think of their dogs, but our kitties are important, too! You are doing an amazing job handling all of this, mama. I know how exhausting, but very important, it is to be present for all your children. Violet is precious! I know she is thriving with all your TLC. Sending love and hugs from Savannah, GA.🩷🫂🙏🎀

  9. OMG Lauren listening to Violet's little noises choked me up a bit. She is doing so well almost 4 lbs. I'm sure this is hard on you but you got this down pat!! Watching you with your girl you look so content. Keep up the excellent work you two! ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing time with Violet with us. Enjoy your day.

  10. Pumping is rough. Because of surgeries after delivery I had to give my little one bottles at times when I had to pump and dump. He ended up refusing to nurse so I’ve been exclusively pumping for 15months. The constant pumping, washing and sterilizing of pump parts and bottles is tough but so worth it. Regular pump sessions is definitely the best was to increase supply. I have found oatmeal and lots of hydration including things like coconut water helps. I also take sunflower lecithin, I had a couple of bouts of mastitis at the beginning and this helps me. You’re doing great mama 😊

  11. You are bringing me back 22 years! I think I blocked out a lot of the NICU journey. I remember the work. I had one baby in and one home for a month. You rush, to get to hospital to pump, then a little snuggle time. It's so nice to be able to pump in her room! They had a large room with a bunch of pumps so you had to go there to pump. Gosh. It's such hard work! Sensing hugs. You seem to have a great schedule, being a fifth time mom you are WAY smarter than I was as a first timer. Sending prayers and hugs. Bless Violet Lord and her family❤❤
