SpaceX suddenly gives out HUGE info about Lunar Starship!

Starship Block 2 is here, and it’ll only have the payload capacity of a New Glenn rocket? The first parts of the new flame diverter have been spotted. We’re finally taking a first-ever official look into SpaceX’s mysterious Lunar Starship mockup! How’s that coming along? Will it be ready in time? What’s inside??? And Blue Origin preps for new Glenn’s static fire while dealing with regulators.

  1. When viewing Starship Flight 5 launch, I was impressed with the size of the fireball and the spaceship rising out of the fireball as it started its ascent

Then I thought how wasteful and that the fireball is a product of bad design.

All that energy in the fireball should be captured like the barrel of a gun. Instead of just letting those gasses escape, particularly rockets like Starship which have such powerful engines should be launching from a long cylinder in the ground of incredibly hard bedrock and shot out of the ground. The described fire trenches should be minimized or eliminated completely

  2. Why not move the cockpit/control area further up into the nose area to facilitate MORE room for cargo, crew and lab areas? It should open up another complete level inside. All that open space inside not put good use. smile

  3. I still loath ladders for the inside, i want a central spiral staircase which the steps can fold up so in 0G it is just a passageway. ladder suck to carry anything up and down especially in any sort of space suit. no need for elevator and could easily add a light weight winch if they need to lift heavier object up through center.

  4. NASA is redundant and a huge wasteful bureaucracy that needs to go away. No value add to the space program and needs to go. Starship is nothing more than a powered fairing. Hard to imagine a crewed starship. Never going to catch a manned starship.

  5. Starship is by far more powerful than New Glenn. I know you said "ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL", but I think it's important information to share that it's not even close to Starship. 🙂

  6. We are decades past the period when NASA, a government agency, was expelling hydrazine into the environment from its launches–which was the impetus for getting the EPA involved in space launches. The worst thing coming out of launches these days, private launches, is often nothing worse than tap water. It is absurd that busybody bureaucrats are involved at all.

  7. It looks like the chopsticks on the new tower will be arrange perpendicularly to the side of the tower, rather than the 45 degree angle that we were used to…check where the OLM will be on the new tower :p

  8. So in the end, will it still be compatible with the mass and volume requirements of Starlab?

They're designing on the assumption of eventually doing a single Starship launch of their station.

  9. > China thanks you for your detailed update on upcoming Block 2 Starship/Superstack developments.
    – In return, they will present us with "Zip" on their future developments.
It's the the time tested Communist version of sharing know how.

  10. If SpaceX manage to develop this system to the levels intended they have a potential system they could supply to other nations, many nations can’t develop space service systems due to the costs and lack of expertise.

Maybe SpaceX could build launch systems for them and either train locals to run the systems or have their own pad crews on site as a hired staff.

SpaceX could be THE go to out of the box space service supplier would wide.
