SpaceX Starship Record Static Fire Up Next, Starbase Management Change, Cygnus NG-18, JPSS 2 & SLS

Over at SpaceX’s Starbase at BocaChica this week, all effort seems focused on the first orbital test flight of Starship, with everything on site looking more refined by the day. We should have the SpaceX Starship record static fire up next! Ships coming down, Ships moving out, and a load of intriguing stuff to cover this week (including the Starbase management change). Cygnus NG-18 made its trip up to resupply the international space station, however there was an unexpected hiccup. A final farewell to United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V from Vandenberg in the spectacular JPSS-2 mission. SLS makes its way back to the launch pad for another attempt at its maiden flight.

  1. Fascinatin' observations, THANK YOU for Sharing. New subscriber here. These activities and your reporting seem to be re-igniting for a younger generation the gut-level excitement over human exploration of the cosmos. Somewhere in the sprawling bureaucracies of national and then international government the spark of sheer exuberant questing was overtaken by bean counters and squabbling over territories, quotas, and partisan squabbling political constituencies. Just thinking those phrases makes me depressed. Pretty sure we are mostly past the stage of backyard home-built piloted amateur rocketry…well, almost. And it seems the 7 decades legacy of NASA and all its contractors have created a wealth of experience. I'm assuming the engineers of the present have access to all the research we taxpayers funded. Things are Jumping!

  3. Nice to see a new sponsor on board, especially as it's space-related!! Those charts look wonderful!
Thanks, as always, for keeping us on the edge of our seats with all the action around the world (and beyond)!!

  4. 3 weather stations at that pad had wind gusts between 89-100mph, you can find it online in the station history, I have screenshots..

Also, noaa increased their estimates to a hurricane warning on November 8th at the 10am update. Plenty of time to roll back, political reasons were in play.

  5. I would not expect a launch before 2025. They have at least 6 months of full 33 engine static fire testing to do yet and the Raptor 2 is still not flight ready either…. Even a launch in 2025 is being optimistic given how many potential points of failure there are.
For now I would be happy to see all 33 engines roar into life without blowing the base up.

  6. Just a quick question. I know that we are still very far away from putting astronauts aboard Starship, but I have yet to see a walkway from the launch tower to the Starship itself. Will that be added later? Have you seen any thoughts on how the crew will board the Starship prior to launch?

  8. Thank you, M.H. and Team! There's always a wealth of news in these updates. It's tough to tell what NASA deliverables SpaceX is working on in terms of Moon missions. Do we see any hardware which might be used for that? It will be quite something to see two Starships docking in space!
