What do you think? Are the Chopstick vibrations a serious concern? Let me know your opinion in the comments!
Those who want landing legs on boosters forgot about the hell boosters create under them… You dont remember the wreck in test 1? 😅
2.58 Better a LQR control law
Linear quadratic Regulator.
6 launches this year😂😂. How will they do more then 3??
First time they try to catch one of these boosters its blowing up the whole OLM😂
PID has been a viable option for large hydraulic systems fro a long time. I used them with ships autopilot and fin stabilizers for years. Fin stabilizers are large, like sterships fins. Accelerometers come into plat as well. This is a solvable problem.
I think flight 6 will be the first catch attempt.
David Clark headsets, lol.
wont they need two towers to launch a refueling mission? can they launch one starship and then launch another within days, from the same pad?
Thanks!
adapt a mass tuned dampener for the chopsticks
.
PID is very powerful to dampen movement
Starship….one big scam…
What is the projected flight 4 launch date
Space X could fit some stabilizing gyros of suitable sizes upscaling of the type used in small boats to control any shaking.
Well, we still test those cans in cryogenics conditions. How passengers will cope with this?. Many launches and the space garbage is becoming a huge problem . Is this industry not responsible to fix this and clean their mess?. But no, you have to launch more to clean it and make even more garbage.
They are going to need legs soon anyway, so why fool with this catching nonsense.
Pid and input shaping will not be applicable to hydraulics due to fluid dynamics, and delayed outputs.
ABB has a very good algorithm to cancel out oscillations in their industrial robots.
the turbopump diagram is sucks, hire more engineered ones to draw it
Why would they need the OLIT in the end? When they want to land on the chopsticks, lauching from them must be an option too …?
Bratwurst and Beer! 😂 Very nice comparison!
Consider catching a modified Falcon 9 booster that is built out to the specs of a regular booster to see the coordination of the catch and the tower.
One might use one of the older boosters launched to 10,000 feet and then landed in the tower. That would prove the catch and the older booster if lost would not be as big a loss.
I think a stand-alone catch tower is the better solution and a catch tower on a drone barge might be the best solution.
Always a cathy watch…
This news is pivotal to Spacex. Blue Origin dropped a video today about their launch site. I hope they finally have something WAI worthy. Let’s hope for coverage Felix!
Why has only one actuator on the chop sticks been replaced? Are they going to replace the other one before flight 4?
PID won't kick it for this. For these system vibrations I'd say MPC (model predictive control) – conveniently, SpaceX are experts at MPC 😉
what about reaction control wheels? large ones with the appropriate weight to control unwanted oscillations
You do know that the Like button is just some photons on my screen? If I smashed it, I would destroy my display. If it's all the same to you, I'll just click on the Like button.
They should have kept one of the offshore riggs to test booster retrieval. I'm just saying 🤷. Regards
Got to get up at 3:34 in the morning for the launch of starliner 🥱🥱🥱
Those arms look pretty heavy and create torque loads on the tower. They need to reduce the weight of those arms.
Going to Mars is crazy. Fix Earth first.
They are going to need landing legs eventually. Not every place in the world they want to go to or launch from can build that launch platform.
The new tower will have to be taller in order to accommodate the taller Booster and Starships, which may mean the Tower itself may become subject to greater Tork, besides the vibration!
just use shuttles. no one needs 100 launches in a month. to expect this thing to be that reliable is just wishful thinking.
"That's the problem with high-risk engineering."
No – that's the problem with SpaceX – a company, run by a moronic criminal stock manipulator. (He'll be bankrupt in inder 4 years, and in prison in under 7)
Blue Origin on the other hand, is run by a sober individual, who ensured that the very first flight (note: ZERO test flights!) of their BE4 engines resulted in…
…an absolutely flawless launch and 100% success of the launch system.
Contrast this to the incredibly stupid "suck it and see" approach where billions of dollars are burned because of a sick narcissistic personality disorder.
I am wondering if a couple steel cables in parallel would be strong enough but still provide a way to disperse the energy of the starship on landing. I don't know, I was just considering a second possibility for catching starship if the chopsticks don't work out.
für Deutschland
cant wait for catch attempt on flight 5 though will it be ship or booster that will be caught lol
Да не будет этого никогда. Увы. 😞
Why is SpaceX testing full size prototypes at catching? Surely the development of this would be cheaper and faster at a scaled level.
