Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the eleventh episode of this semi-hardcore survival series, in this episode I spend some time upgrading the base, mostly the power systems. After that I decided to start building a brand new mining ship for the planets!

  1. Hey Bud, on the stacking of the solar panels, it works when they are back to back, resting against each other, it really does work, you placed yours away from the first one,

Edit, Interesting design on the small grid, i was thinking about the 3x3x1 conveyor spacer, so you would have hydro tank, spacer, hydro, spacer, cargo, spacer cargo, and the last cargo could be so you have a small conveyor at the end, which you could put a sorter on to make sure the drills empty, also by having those spacers you would be able to have thrust go in the other direction aswell, and your connectors would both be at the same point on either side of the ship, but thats just my OCD kicking in, lol. basically toy just spread out the ship a little more and turn the last cargo so you get 2 small and 2 large on the outside, with a small on the bottom. I liked the beam blocks you put in there to, i have tried so many times to use those, and i always just make it look stupid. i just dont know how to use em, obviously.

  2. For smal gridd miners I recomend a stout design. If the design is about the same lenght in al directions with a somewhat round shape, you cam move much more freely within your miningshafts. Bigger miners can be built with aditional drills so they can rightklick mine savely to the orevains.

My starter atmominer has the esentials smushed at the front of a smal gridd large container with four drills in the corners of a industrial cockpit. Its shape made me go black and jellow on the coloursceme and naming it bumblebee. I also design al my athmo miners with enough reverse thrust to hover face down while empty.

  3. Hello, as I said in the previous episode, it is possible to put the solar panels glued back-to-back without space between the two otherwise it does not work. So a final block of 2x2x4 with the two panels in the center of the 2×2 face glued together

  4. Looks like it's time to build some landing lights on the asteroid base πŸ˜‰

Maybe stick a couple of hydrogen engines on the base? More work than solar, and less efficient than nuclear, but ice is readily available in large amounts. At least it's a backup.

Speaking of mining ships, I've seen one in a workshop showcase that was absolutely massive, with the front end covered in drills. It was literally able to eat its way through asteroids.

Imagine covering the front of the Prometheus with drills, and there you have it. Maybe a bit of overkill for your purposes, but it was pretty impressive.

I wonder if you could put the miner cockpit in the middle of the ship, between the cargo containers and the hydrogen tanks, or if that would make for much too complicated plumbing.

I don't know how practical it is, but I like the look of building "RCS clusters" from the small thrusters: put down a conveyor junction, and put thrusters on all of the available faces. That gives you thrust in most directions.

All in all, the miner is looking pretty good so far! I particularly like how you're taking some inspiration from the Prometheus. Don't forget to put some lights on it πŸ˜‰

  5. Quick tip for QOL just in case you or anyone reading is not aware:
You can quickly move items between two cargo containers from within the inventory menu by double left clicking the loot in question
If the items are moving into the incorrect container when doing so all you need to do is β€˜select’ the correct inventory on the list by left clicking it once

  6. For power have you considered using Ur wind farm on the planet to charge extra batteries πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Maybe a bunch of batteries with compactors on them.

U can shuttle them everytime you return for ore.

  7. Put the drills one a 3×3 rotor? at 0.4rpm they should drill a nice round hole, you can even put them in a timer block together with rotor on, so you need to press only one ket to activate them all

  8. Were you placed the small triangles may need a rub rail on top of them, eg. Beams, because you scrape the sides going in and out.
Miner is looking great tho .

  9. Regarding mining ships, I have a really nice, compact small grid plunge mining drone that I can keep docked on the back of my large grid rovers. Vertical mining ships really are handy.
