I once had a dream of the Earth where the Arctic had melted and travel by sea was the main transportation. I was in a medium sized very fast boat and it went around the coasts and islands that were there.
The Earth's magnetic field had decayed to the point where enough energy from the Sun, which comes in at the poles, had melted the ice.
That and the Earth's crust had slipped 90* such that the Arctic was moved to the Equator.
