  1. Just googled if the game will be available on steam?
But the last information was kinda outdated.
Someone knows if the devs plan to put it on steam or not?
I think this game can be the next stellaris, shame that I never even heard about it.
(devs were complaining about the cut that steam takes and stuff, but the sales and promotion of the game should make up for it big time)

  2. As to "I suck in starsector" – I got a relatively RNG proof game plan:
Independent start. buy a dram tanker – relatively common on hegemony colonies. Add; "expanded cargo holds", "militarized subsystems", and the 2 engine hullmods to make it as fast as possible (to get to 195 top speed) – and no weapons, as you intend to run from fights. sell the rest of your ships. fill with supplies, fuel, and crew.

Start by doing exploration quests (this ship setup can go months without resupplying, and escape from all but the most lucky pirates – since having an "omen" with speed hullmods, for example, is really rare) – make sure to visit as many star systems as you reasonably can (when not under pressure of time, fuel, and supplies) – the goal is to know how many planets each star (or a nebula if you are feeling fancy) has.

After you get about 2M credits doing so (and befriend at least the pirates), look for a star system to make your first colony – ideally it should be close to an at least 1 non-hostile faction, have planets with ruins, and preferably have at least 10 worlds you can colonize (fighting off raiders and invasions gets way easier once to have 10 military bases in a system…) – get a surveying fleet to just survey the systems you liked previously.

And use abandoned astropolis or mining station to store all your stuff for free.

As to fighting – your goal is to find ships with the best (actual DPS)/(deployment points) ratio, so that in a battle you will field way more guns than your enemy. Actual DPS – if your ships can't get in range, die too quickly, or their shots/missiles miss, although it is still called DPS, it is useless.
If the "tempest" isn't the best in this regard, it is definitely close to the top, as a fleet of them gets losses only vs more than 1 battle capital ships (they chew through capital carriers, and everything else), since they need to be both outranged and get enough DPS to destroy them before they get to retreat (or if you feel really nerdy, you can add that any 3 full fleets at once will just exhaust their CR, and win that way…). outfit the tempests with the best DPS cannons you can get (I use 1k range lasers, with range extending hullmods – but I doubt it is their best use), and feel OP as they smash through most fleets (recently, I won a +180% battle difficulty vs a "mess" fleet without losses).

As to the lategame fleet – I play with many mods, one of them is the "hivers" mod, so I outfit a fleet of automatedly constructed (for a total of 6 built in S – mods per ship) "Radiant"s and "Paragon"s with their large energy weapons, and augmented lasers for PD (again, I doubt that these are the best loadouts).

  3. Gasp? You don't salvage the wreckage of labs? When you loot labs/habs/mining stations they leave a wreckage field which can yield more blueprints, AI cores, etc.

  4. I just started my own colony after taking a 200k loan that I didn't repay. After a couple months my income blew up. After that I formed more, and it's really crazy how much of a difference there is between slot dmg ships, and perfect ships.

  5. Good way to make money is to target low soldier stations and invade them, then sell everything especially the orbital station. Must not be under a faction to do. You can make a mil per place you invade and then just transfer control to a faction you like.

  6. seems like they nerfed smuggling drugs an weapons also raiding I had 500 marines put em all on drugs except one on a minimal loss target to try an distract from the main force an only got 70 to 100 drugs a raid lol

  7. You should be building an orbital station and ground defenses on every planet you own. If you have the industrial evolution mod, only one planet in a system needs a military base, as all the others can use military relays, giving you an extra industry slot per planet

Also, upgrade everything all the time, the only time you don't want to upgrade is if your colony is small and doesn't need the extra defense of a star fortress (yet)
