Solo Schooling NEW HORSE | Adapting my Riding

Join me as I take Enzo to a nearby arena for our first solo schooling session without a professional’s watchful eye. I’ll be honest, I felt a little unsure of exactly what I was doing and was conscious of not undoing any of Tom’s hard work with Enzo. As much as I know we need to school little and often, I plan to do it mostly under the supervision of an instructor for the first few sessions. This way, I can avoid getting into a pickle or second-guessing whether I’m doing things right or wrong.

  1. Great job Tina, you're approaching this tentatively and so is he, you're both saying "mmm I think this may be the best way or maybe not" nothing wrong with that, you're coming with a kind ownership and riding and getting to know eachother, it's going well from what you've shared, it will grow and click, you'll be achieving lots big and small for the next couple of years before it's the new normal. ❤

  2. I would defo NOT just be quicker when he does that getting on. Take some time training how to stand patiently to be mounted. He would learn to stand nicely without moving when you are getting on or after you are on. If you get on when he does it he never learns that, that is not ok. I personally would not get on a horse that would not stand still to get on even if he feels ok once you are in. Babies need telling and showing what is expected. It takes time but time worth talking. Ok lecture over lol 😂 but seriously this is all part of his training ❤

  3. Enzo reminds me so much of my horse, who is a retired show horse, after a very long and successful career here in the US( not with me)….you two do so well together already and I’m looking forward to watching your progress! He’s a lovely horse!

  4. I think you really underestimate yourself Tina, you are an excellent rider and don't need to be under a professional's watchful eye all the time. I think once you trust your own experience you'll be flying it with Enzo. 🙂

  5. Enzo is gorgeous! If you haven’t watched Steve Young Horsemanship, I can’t recommend him too highly for training, especially getting horses to line up to the mounting block.
I am looking forward to watching you and Enzo develop your relationship.

  6. I have the biggest crush on Enzo!! 😍 he’s just so lovely and I adore watching you with him, you give him so much praise 🥹 you’re an amazing rider for a young horse, especially during this huge change in his young life – he’s landed on his hooves!
Bless Em too ❤ hope she has fun and is happy with her results at Bicton! 🤞🏼

  7. Emily would be fab to give you lessons as she’s been through it with Addie and she does know her stuff with babies ….. and also send your video to Tom as he will give you some help I’m sure …. My instructor used to tell me to focus on rhythm and suppleness and have a goal for each session …. I’m sure Alex’s lesson will give you some homework ! Alex is such a great rider and will happily help you lucky you ! 🥰

  8. Compliments to you and Enzo. I clicked off some fascinating trial coverage to view this. Your mom is beautiful also.still enamored with Enzo! When he lifs his head he looks huge! He was just getting a better look at his potential new friend! I must say he seems a safer ride than Banksy. He seems very responsive to the excitment in your voice when talking with Em! It may be distracting? He is listening to everyone?

  9. You also need to be aware that you may subconsciously be feeling nervous (despite not showing it too much) which if he's already a 70% spritely horse that can be on his toes a lot…..he will pick up on which will make him react. I also agree with Em in the fact if his walk is short and springy then this is a sign he isn't fully relaxed. I had an ex racer very similar 😊 it's not criticism to you at all as you're a very good rider and after all it is still a very new partnership you and Enzo. You definitely doubt yourself way too much which also may again make you give off vibes of feeling a bit tense and on edge which any sensitive horse will pick up on. Little things such as jump wings having fallen over…..they're not going to eat you and Enzo 😅 let him look at them yes…..however try not to think of what Banksy does…as as you and Em both keep saying….every horse is different 😊 I wish you both lots of success 😊

  10. I Haven’t watched all of the video yet but I thought your mounting of Enzo in a new environment was A1, you both did great! I felt like you needed reassurance in the moment, Listen to your instincts you know what’s right, your not being soft your being patient, professional and treating Enzo with respect. Your very good at controlling your emotions around your horses not everyone is. ♥️

  11. Oh, Tina! The smile on my face watching this! I'm absolutely obsessed with your boy and am SO excited to be along for your journey together! He is phenomenal and such a sweetheart! He honestly looks like he could be my horses's twin, which might make me a tad bias, but still, he is STUNNING!!! Such a gorgeous color, wonderful conformation, and beautiful paces! Watch out eventing world! Here you come!!! So much love to you, Tina! I am so very happy for you! ❤❤❤❤

  12. I agree what Emily said about it not being a lesson for you and Enzo, but definitely a continuation of you getting to know Enzo and vice versa. Would it be better instead of taking your hand off the rein but as you hold the rein in your hand and just rub his neck to show him that was the correct answer to the question you had put in front of him (the movement/action required), as I've seen Lucy do this a lot of times with Ember. Looking forward to seeing more of your journey together with the handsome Enzo. 😊
