Sokolov: Russian media publish video of 'killed' Black Sea fleet commander

A television station run by Russia’s defence ministry showed a video interview with the Black Sea fleet commander, Viktor Sokolov, on Wednesday, days after Ukraine claimed he had been killed in a missile strike on Russian navy headquarters in Crimea.

The video, released on 27 September, shows Sokolov at an awards event congratulating members of the Black Sea fleet soccer team for their performance in a tournament for teams from Russia’s armed forces. Ukraine’s special forces said on Monday that Sokolov had been killed along with 33 other officers in a missile attack last week in the port of Sevastopol in Crimea, seized from Ukraine in 2014.

  1. Two British volunteer fighters who fought in Ukraine are feared to have been murdered by their fellow foreign legion comrades following alleged disputes over money and petty arguments.

Daniel Burke, a former paratrooper who went to fight in Ukraine as a volunteer in 2022, vanished from his flat in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia on August 11, 2023 and hasn't been seen since.

Jordan Chadwick, a former Scots Guard from Burnley, Lancashire, who also volunteered to fight for Ukraine, was found dead in a body of water with his hands tied behind his back in June, 2023.

  2. Somebody mentioned that this was old footage of Sokolov presenting a trophy at some tournament a while back. Looks like Moscow is really desperate to make people believe that he is still alive.

  3. A basic rule that has proven itself for two decades and now parcticularly during that war:
Every sensible person knows that Russian info is (albeit not perfect) mostly much more trustworthy than Ukrainian or Western info.
There aren't just too many westerners that are sensible enough around though (in particular not their "experts") … Too bad – but this is slowly changing. People in the west are also slowly waking up. Reality calls everyone at some point.
