💁🏽♀️Im a person who grew up during the creation of social media, and I got them when they first came out but as someone who is older and is sorta responsible for some children, I do not want those children on social media because it is a different kind of social media that existed than when it first came out, these algorithms are doing more harm than good and if parents let their children use these things then I don’t think they’re being very good parents, there uninformed about the dangers, and how much of their children’s childhoods are being stolen away with these applications
just like the government has PBS and NPR, the government needs to introduce a safe social media that people want to join where the accounts are verified and we could just interact with one another in a safe space, and that doesn’t mean shutting down Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or any of the other ones it just means that the government has understood that they need to take some responsibility and put a platform there that the people can trust and utilize, just like with PBS and NPR
🤔It’s truly is not the CEOs fault of these tech companies, it truly is a parenting issue, just like you wouldn’t buy your young child dangerous things, I don’t know why parents would allow their children to download these unregulated apps, and then get mad at the CEOs. some of the CEOs won’t even let their own children have a social media account and parents think that it’s OK for their kids when the CEOs won’t even allow it for their own. 😂 would you let your five-year-old get an only fans account? no no because it’s made for adults, what about social media screams that it’s made for kids? When anybody can just talk to your child and you don’t even know who these people are….if parents wanna protect their children then they need to get wise about new technology and stop being so ignorant and then ignorantly going to blame the CEOs of these companies who never really really made any legal promises. Kids sign up and lie about their age. That’s not the companies fault, parents buy these phones, parents need to take some responsibility for their lack of parenting.
Zuckerberg is a responsible parent who would not let his children on social media because he knew of the dangers to adolescence, the parents are the ones who are slacking who allow their kids to be in such spaces. A child being on social media is the equivalent dropping your kid off in vegas @2am with $500 sticking out their pockets😂

For what I’m hearing so far it’s just these gentlemen are out to protect their app from regulation rather than protect the human who is prompted to irresponsibly respond to everything they pound back in your face is a predatory algorithm and predatory apps to take it vantage of our kids and the confusion they make that the apps make tried reading the fine print try finding the fine print to read
As much as I love seeing Big Tech squirm, I have to ask where is the responsibility on the parents? Why is your kid sending nudes and buying drugs? The politicians are blaming the medium but not the source. Sorry if that’s insensitive but why aren’t we looking at that point?

What even is the purpose of these hearings? Congress already has made up their mind on how they feel about this. They embarrass themselves with their inflammatory responses. It's a shame, there is a real issue here with nuanced discussion for resolution.

In my opinion there was no reason to push party politics in this conversation with Big Tech.
Start compulsory payments for all the services I want to use, then actual numbers will come out and virtual / online crimes will reduce.
