At a minimum, there needs to be a strat to immediately launch…2CP….halve the damage…whatever. They're better. Better is relative. This suffers from the same problems abilities like Orbital Strike have. People talking area denial are in denial. The same argument was used for OS and it's basically never used. Having 3 of them (assuming you can activate all 3) isn't going to help either.
Enlisted Boby: And what about the xenos the mutants the heretick who just NOPE out your 3 Deathstrike Missile before the launch ?
Commisar Hank: Then we ask them politely but firmly to NOPE out our line of newli accured field ordinance lascannons sights… thats why we put our deathstrike missiles marker IN A ROW…
cant wait to see what they do with my favorite tank , the basilisk
Relatively cheap points wise for an indirect fire weapon.
Add a comment….
I would run two of these I think. Its nice to be able to make the area in front of your tanks practically untraversable. Also if one objective is worth more for some reason you could deny it all game if you like. I think a couple of these can do 0 damage an entire game and still be worth 300 points.
Surround an enemy with godstrike missile targeted. No matter where they go they die… sounds like 3 deathstrikes it is
These are kind of fun units I like. Looks really good too!
take three of these and zone them out of the center of the board
sooooo templates are back . . . wooooo. . .
The real question: Can they take Full Payload?
they are bad, a standard basalisk will out dps them over the course of the game and cant be shut down with an action fails ability
I love the idea of rolling a 1 and a unit of Gretchen shrug off a Godspear missile
When you think about it it actually seems pretty balanced, mainly because after the missile it is relatively useless beyond absorbing wounds. Aswell how many objective holding units cost 150 points for 10 wounds. Virtually nothing. As a result the Deathstrike is a balance between high unavoidable damage and area denial vs what is still a significant investment
I do think there will need a rewrite of the Godspears ‘marker’ rule. This could definitely be a game changer for the Deathstike. Not only that but if your opponent has a chaff unit holding their objective, remove them with the Basilisk and have your deathstrike marker sitting on their home objective. Each time the chaff unit comes back to hold it you destroy it with the basilisk, soon the opponent realising they are now on the back foot will by necessity have to put something tanky on that objective or swarm it with a bunch of their units to weather the damage, that’s when the deathstrike drops. Or they abandon that point entirely and come forward and try and take your points, and coming at guard isn’t a good idea.
Man just not shooting this and constantly threatening with it will be funny
Seems to me it could be used to take out close combat blobs or prevent them from charging al together.
Very thematic unit now. Could be paired with some very nasty tricks also.
This is easily the best rules update for anything in 9th it's soo hilarious and the mental game that comes with it is amazing
Actually the reaiming is big, this basically guarantees that you are going to hit something eventually, and every turn you can force movement of your enemies.
If the "marker" is a template I'm buying fucking eight
This is going to make using my StormSurge fun against guard players. I try not to move it if I can for that re-roll hits ability if you don’t move. God spear going to put a stop to that.
This is a potential game breaker if you are allowed to take more than one, and I can easily see the next Balance Dataslate sending them the way of the Ork artillery.
For missions with a single 'home' objective, the threat of multiple shots form these means that until you destroy them/ they are all fired off certain armies are left with a Hobson's choice of having to lose vital units simply to have any ability to score the primary.
This is another example of a rule that removes Agency from the other player- a key aspect in what is wrong with modern 40K.
I think using the action mechanic is a good idea, I was hoping it would do that.
Godspear sounds great if you want to defend a unit against combat heavy elites. You target in front of your unit, so if you opponent charges them, they run the risk of getting hit by the missile. If they don't charge you, you just re-aim the missile. If they do, you just fall back and blow them up.
Great for "protecting" a unit on an objective. More so if you take 2 deathstrikes
12 min for that lol
I think GW have been listening to my thoughts. Since the first orbital bombard stratagem in 8th I have been saying that the deathstrike should be turned into something similar. An area denial tool instead of just killing stuff
>Forward deploy something from your army
>align all 3 missiles turn 1 in enemy army
>make long bomb first turn charge and trap enemy in deployment zone
>Roll 3 1s’
it's good for getting units out of cover and out into the open. with more deathstrikes, you could almost corner units
How about using them to prevent melee attacks? Tons of Khorne Berserkers about to charge your gunline? Drop a deathstrike marker on your own unit. Now the Berserkers either destroy your unit and get obliterated, move away, or stand around in front of ranked guard making full use of First Rank Fire or something.
i dont understand the point of the deathstrike. it wouldve been nice if it had at least one missile option that wasnt delayed a turn.
I actually really dig what they did with the model this time around if this is all true. Gives them some real use and fun especially if you can choose the missile before the battle starts.
Does this mean they are bringing back templates and scatter die?
This gives off strong "Final Fantasy 14 boss AOE attack" vibes. I approve.
I imagine this is going to be effective against armies that rely on death star formations, or who have taken secondaries that require they not fall back or leave an objective. It might also be useful for flushing units out of cover.
Well thats and f for nurgle daemons and deathguard
sooo…. take 3 of them to take triple god spear and force movement?
You can run away from the strike?
….but half my army is artillery carriages
3:34 Wouldn't it be nice if Pinning tests were still a thing?
I feel that the -1 for infantry characters should just go in favor of fluff. If the method of "assassination" is an ICBM to the face… they probably earned it.
That's possibly the best way to do this kind of unit. The big risk with high-damage artillery is that they can be very un-fun to play against, as it's just quite frustrating to have your most important units deleted with absolutely no way to protect them. The delayed hit and visible strike location meanwhile still gives the unit a lot of genuine tactical value, while also giving the opponent way to play around and counteract it.
Lol, he said take "one"
I could see the godspear being a useful choice against a centerpiece unit (a knight squad, a scout titan, things like that), or just to completely destroy the opponents ability to dig into cover. But against a highly mobile army like Orks or Tyranids, or just one that's speced heavily toward melee, it would be utterly worthless. The plasma barrage could MAYBE be useful against chaff players, depending on how tightly they cluster, and the vortex would be absolutely phenomenal, as you say, against an objective, especially if it's a smaller objective… but this remains a very very situational pick for a unit. For the points, I'd probably take a Leman Russ instead.
There's a saying in competitive online games, such as League of Legends, that the possible use of an ability is far more threatening than the actual use of said ability.
This thing is the perfect embodiment of that.
"I'll lay this marker here, and if anything is there come my next turn, THEY ALL DIE."
…
"Well, shit….that's a one."
Seems like a very violent way to target the battle sisters shrine objective
