Not before Jim Morrison.
1967? I know ‘Bus Stop’ was summer of ‘67.
“My Baby She Wrote Me a Letter” 😎
Give a listen to Lenny Welch Since I Fell For You 1963
You didn’t ding the bell!
Engelsk
Those are generic rock poses . haha!
Those organs sounds are from specific organs like Vox continental, Rhodes, Farfisa, Hamond b-3., Moog, synthasizors, meletron etc. The horns give it away too. They used a lot of French horns in the sixties. Especially in English music. They all had their unigue sounds and the era of music identifies with those sounds.
Drugs, the overdrive, fuzz tone and wha-wha, oh don't forget the Cow bell, identify with the sixties.
Soulful sixty’s song .
When I was in the service we played that song in the barracks all night when someone was going back to the world
Try their Neon Rainbow, Cry Like A Baby and Soul Deep
Cry like a baby!
Ohhhhh! I was 13 when this song when this came out! I loved loved this song. A flash from my teenage past!
The Box Tops, The Buckinghams, The Grass Roots and The Guess Who were my favorite bands in the 60s….there was soooooo much good music on the radio back then, the "Soul" music from Motown and Memphis, the Cali West Coast sound…..THE best time to be a teenager was the 60s and early 70s hands down.
That sound? It reminds you of the 60’s? Farfisa organ is my best guess. Used often. Wiki it.
lol… Alex Chilton……… He is the singer all musicians wish thwy could be or have fronting them… The Replacements have a Song called "Alex Chilton: Counting Crows in live versions of mr Jones change the lyric to I wish I could be Alex Chilton. He was a teenager in the Box Tops and went on to front Big Star before just disappearing into the memphis music scene. Definatelt do the repalcements Alex Chilton as soon as you can just because now you know who he is
Eddie Money the time traveller.
I had this on a 45. Had it fixed so this record would play over and over. Hearing it again has really taking me back. Can't believe I still remember every word. I'm 68 now, thank you so much for taking me back in time. Love your channel. Keep them coming……
This brings back an old memory. I was in navy nuke power school in Maryland when on a Saturday a bud and I went to Lancaster, Pa for a change (we usually hung out in Baltimore or DC). At some local bar this band we'd never heard of was playing. A few weeks later this song started to chart. Cool.
Something for you both to keep in mind for future videos: if you can't easily identify what instrument is making a particular sound, it's going to very often be some kind of keyboard. It may be an organ, a synthesizer, or a more common multi-sound keyboard from the 80s onward, but it will almost always be a keyboard-like instrument.
Why do you always have to compare? Enjoy it for what it is, not what it is like, or similar to.
Great song – I remember when this was first released on the radio, heavy rotation. A good associated song would be "The Rain, The Park, and other things" by Cowsills (who are still performing – saw them last year).
Al Green does a great cover of this tune.
Hey guys. Also check out Joe Cocker's version of this song. I think you'll like it.
Bands couldn't really fake playing their instruments back then, and this is a good example. Some clues. Guitars not plugged in, no cords. Drummer usually blocked by the singer so you can't see he's really not hitting the drums or cymbals. Even the guitar players and keyboard player are not even trying to fake their moves. The organ you see in the video is probably not the one that's really in the recording. What was very popular and prevalent in the 60's were the electronic transistor organs. Arguably the most popular was the Vox Continental Organ. Very distinctive red-colored keyboard. You'll see this organ in many 60's music videos, and these types of transistor organs is probably what Amber is talking about. Look at the keyboard in Animals – House of the Rising Sun. You get a good look at a Vox Continental. Once you recognize the red Vox Continental, you'll see it again and again in 60's music videos.
Sung by a teenager! Written by the same guy who co-wrote Always On My Mind which was recorded by many artists but made famous by Willie Nelson. I will also jump on the bandwagon that as great as this is, Joe Cocker's live version is amazing.
Big Star …..
Alex Chilton also inspired one of my favorite songs ever by The Replacements.
Joe Cocker does a great version of this song.
to hear the genius ALEX CHILTON, THE PUPPET SONG,CRY LIKE A BABY,he's one of the best ,he sang this song the letter when he was 16 years old
Alex Chilton was only like 16 when he did this. What a voice at that age.
The late great Alex Chilton…his biggest thing though, artistic & influential not commercial, is BIG STAR, the first cult powerpop band…do In The Street or September Gurls or The Ballad of El Goodo…do Big Star next, better than the Box Tops…that song tho is classic & was the #1 single in the US the day I was born in 1967…
I loved this song, was 14 when it came out in '68. A stone classic.
Have you done the original "I'm Your Venus" by Shocking Blue? Sooo much better than Bananarama.
got the 45 rpm like age 12. OMG, yes. 55 years later, I still know the words… keyboard, so much to add musical sound from a keyboard could add to guitar and more than piano.
YES! Superb 60's tune. My 45, bought on release still plays well.
A great oldie! Timeless! It’s funny that all the 60’s songs were so short! I often wish some were longer!! His voice was crazy at such a young age! Great review guys!!
