Smokey & The Bandit Tribute Truck Ep.51 OK, That's A Wrap

#ProjectSnowman #fleetFX #twinstickgarage

On this episode I continue with the ongoing restoration of this 1979 Kenworth W900A truck to turn it into a tribute movie truck to the one used in the 1977 classic movie Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for??? “Oh that’s great psychology, why don’t you just say something bad about my mother”

So Graham, a top installer from FleetFX graphics in Edmonton, AB (@inst.grahams on IG) came out today to put on the finishing touch to the bodywork on #ProjectSnowman and add the gold wrap. After studying both the ’73 and the ’74 trucks used in the movie, he got started cleaning off all the wax and rubbing compound left behind after I attempted to improve my paint job then started to layout the gold. I can’t say how sharp that looks now but we did hit a snag when the pin striping (a different brand from the 3M the gold sheets are made of, didn’t quite match so we elected to leave that off for now while Graham goes back to get some new stripes cut – we’ll put on in a future episode. Looks great to me and now one step closer to getting it done. Graham’s not looking forward to putting the Stagecoach wrap on the trailer though as that’s going to be a ton of work…

Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!
Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go … I do all my own stunts

Enjoy watching the progress of this Kenworth W900A project, the ongoing Peterbilt 359 restoration and the upcoming #IronDuke Kenworth K100 cabover I’m planning to build up like the one used in the 70’s trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.

  1. Contact coors and see if they'll donate you a bunch of prop cases to partially fill your trailer in the back for the truck show if they have the same case boxes as the movie. It would be a big advertising for them.

  2. Honestly, I think you made the right call by not rushing the build. With how much time and effort you’ve put into it, it just wouldn’t make sense to hobble it all together at the last minute then do it all over again the right way.

  4. Australia Post does the same thing. They buy white trucks and wrap them blue. It's quicker, easier, and have higher resale value in white. Waiting on a custom colour truck can be a pain when you can buy a white one right away.

  6. So it can just be wrapped instead of painting… but is that now to bare metal or primer surface, I assumed the sanded surface…? I would think it would rust under wrapped metal if not some kind of cover to protect. I don't have a clue as to the right questions as its as foreign as chinese language to me. I have seen some solid color rigs an to me, it would drive me nuts to look at all one color inside and out.

  7. Truck is gonna look great. Even Peterbilt Mike referenced you in his video Wednesday morning. But if you won't be making it with the snowman truck this year, can we see updates or work on the iron duke instead of signing up on patreon?

  8. The truck is beginning to look absolutely beautiful with the gold wrap, what a difference how that the wrap brought it to life . All the hrs. that you have spent working on the truck to get things near as perfect to right are really paying off . You have done an absolute fantastic job and when you get all the handles and chrome on, it's going to be amazing looking .
I will see you later on another video, so take care and stay safe out there on the road and working on the trucks .

  9. Wow, there is some wicked stuff you can do with wrap now. Almost more than you can do with paint. Rushing is not good Mark, that's when you start making mistakes. Good choice take Little By Little She will love the attention! Learned a lot, great episode!

  10. This is the part I've been waiting for, where it magical transforms into Snowman's truck. Cletus (Jerry Reed) would be so proud of the job you've done so far and the bandit as well. Any plans of finding a Trans am in the future?

The work you have done is highly commendable, dedication, and the paint looks , to me great, that wrap rocks, and the trailer is going to make this thing a must see good work, great content.

  13. What a nice, patient and conscientious guy Graham is – well done, even with him having "Mother Duck" clucking and fussing and asking 1000's of questions, – haha, just kidding, I would be exactly the same Mark, in fact worse, given the hours and $ that's gone into the truck so far – the day its finished, as you American guys say – it's going to POP! (PS. It's a thrill for us too.)

  14. after watching this truck come together i had to dig out the DVD and watch the movie! My first crush was on the flying nun and frog doesn't look much older in the movie and still just as cute!
Can not wait to see this truck completed. Then you have to build your wife a fire bird to keep Buford out of your mirrors! lol
