Smokey & The Bandit Tribute Truck Ep.45 Back in Black’ish

#ProjectSnowman #twinsticks #twinstickgarage

On this episode I continue with the ongoing restoration of this 1979 Kenworth W900A truck to turn it into a tribute movie truck to the one used in the 1977 classic movie Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for??? “There’s no way that you can come from my loins…”

Picking up from last week’s cliffhanger, I start laying down the Nason Night Shadow Brown single stage paint. Spraying was going very well and the high-end spray gun I bought was working beautifully. However, right away it was oblivious that my hillbilly paint booth was not airtight, and dust and tree fluff was showing up. No big deal as we can buff that out later. Eventually, I got 2 nice coats laid down and I have to say it looks pretty decent. Once I let it rest for a while, I decided to take the booth down and let some natural light in. All in all it turned out pretty good considering I’ve never painted before and I had a lot of headwinds (inexperience, home-made booth, inadequate lighting, dark paint, etc). I’m sure the professionals out there will be happy to point out the flaws, but overall, I’m happy I gave it a try

Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!

Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go … I do all my own stunts

Enjoy watching the progress of this Kenworth W900A project, the ongoing Peterbilt 359 restoration and the upcoming #IronDuke Kenworth K100 cabover I’m planning to build up like the one used in the 70’s trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.

  3. You have lots of comments but I have to step in here to lol. I paint a lot of different things. But I wouldn't use single stage anymore without a professional booth. Base coat clear coat is my advise to any homeowner or DIYer. It's VERY forgiving and you can paint it anywhere. The extra coats allow TONS of sanding without effecting the paint quality. Great job for your first time tho. My first vehicle was a 66 ford P/U about 24yrs ago. Painted it Cadillac pink for my mother. It looked terrible. Kept working at it and I got it. But that BC/CC is exactly what you're looking for in a deep deep shine. Love that color too!
