Slab to Cab – Australian Dendritic Opal

After slabbing a big chunk of opal from Australia I had a couple of smaller, fractured pieces. I decided to take one of this broken slabs and turn it into a free-form cabochon. It almost went smoothly…….😆

  1. Nice polish! A few tips: Your cab is great for display, but not suitable for jewelry. That crack will snap with a tap, or finger pressure. A few seconds on the 220 wheel will bevel that jagged bottom edge. Dop wax is trash, try golf tees, white glue, dried overnite, sealed with a couple coats of nail polish.
