Kill Uncle has been criticized for different reasons by critics, Morrissey and his co-writer Mark Nevin. This is my attempt to address Nevin’s criticism – “The demos that we did were much more guitar based. Langer and Winstanley…took a lot of the guts out of the tracks. The guitars are thin and they put pianos in, that Madness type piano thing. Mick Ronson…was my suggestion. I wanted a guitar player to produce it, to crank up the guitars. Mick…came in and did the “Your Arsenal” album and featured the guitars more [Nevin wrote 2 tracks on Your Arsenal]. Everybody went “Oh, it’s much better. They’ve got rid of Mark Nevin.” I thought “That’s unfair!” I finally get it the way I want it and I got criticised.”I’ve added instrumentation (in some cases emulating the live version, in others adding new elements) and altered some tempos.
