SILO Season 2 Episode 9 Ending Explained

I review, breakdown and explain Silo Season 2 Episode 9. I discuss the Apple TV+ show which saw the ending focus on Lukas Kyle finding the tunnel under the Silo and answer what the safeguard is. I give my reaction to Solo’s true identity and backstory as Jimmy Conroy, the identity of the three people that attacked Jules, Martha being found out to be the rat, Jules getting her suit and being able to head to Silo 18, Bernard being tricked by Knox, Rob Simms changing sides to the rebellion and Sheriff Paul Billings working with Shirley. I also give my theories and predictions on episode 10, the finale.

  1. This was definitely the best episode of the season. Solo's scenes had me feeling things I didn't think this show could make me feel. Let me know your thoughts on the episode in the comments!

  2. Jules is going to walk back to silo 18 with the girl Eater, right before the people of the silo are about to go full blown rebelion, the season will end with people of the silo in disbelief, the next season is going to take a huge dynamic shift of the silo, a new entity will be revealed that is worse than finding out if outside is safe or not, my guess is that the new entity is going to be some sort of a group that controls over all silos and lukas is the one whos going to be connected to them but instead of him going insane because of the information, he's going to do something about it.

TDLR: silo 18 will know that Jules is alive, the rebelion will stop, a new villain is introduced that will interfere with the desinty of the silo because people know that jules survived outside which means the pact is a lie.

  3. I can't believe they are (apparently) going to stretch the book Wool into 3 seasons. And it does feel very stretched. There has been so much stuff added in the show that is not in the book. At this rate, it will be 20 years before they get through all the Silo books.

  4. The tunnel was a little too easy to find but the spotlight voice came soon enough after to distract me. Had all but given up on this series but this episode was strong enough to rekindle my interest.

  5. Could silo 17 be the result of Safeguard?

It’s never fully explained what happened, just that Solo recalled (as a child) chaos, rebellion, and lack of order was the result. Was the silo partially flooded to hide any chance of accessing the tunnel? The head of IT doesn’t even know what safeguard is and might explain the flooding so there no possible way of escaping alive.

    Some thoughts:
    – The tunnel has to be how water is transported in, so maybe Safeguard quite literally safeguards the silo from any escape below

  6. I’ve been wondering how solo would have any food left let alone ice cream. I don to know if it’s been shown but where are all the supplies and rations stored?! The vault doesn’t look that big

  7. This episode really did a lot for me. Answered questions but replaced them immediately with bigger ones. I held out faith that Solo was a pure soul, a kid inside, and felt huge vindication after getting his backstory.

  8. The scenes in the main silo are boring, the scenes outside and in the silo where juliette is, are more interesting. Episode after episode has 5 minutes of good stuff and the rest is all padding. Not a great show by any means.

  9. This was the one of the worst episodes for me. First off the kids surviving in the silo all alone for so many years is illogical. When Juliette shows up and is then running around all over the Silo to make a bridge and all the attempts at getting to the only light on in "IT", to add to this only about 23 or so levels are above water. She would have seen signs that others were living in the silo from their lights to a myriad of things. The idea that they were hiding and worried about the killer would have faded as Solo didn't even come out very far, if ever for years. I hated that subplot and only see it as a roadblock tool by the writer to delay Juliette from getting back on her plan to go back to her Silo. I do very much enjoy the Silo series, so much that it inspired me to read Hugh Howey's Sand series, which I also love and can't wait for the next book. Once the Silo series is over I will go read the books and maybe that subplot will be more believable, I hope so anyway.

  10. Another problem I have with this episode is how Shirl acts after she leads Lukas to the bottom of the Silo. When he is about to go into the water, she just says you're on your own. She just doesn't care anymore and starts the long trip back up. That would never happen, they have always wondered about the water, she would have most likely gone with him being that they are in a crisis event and doesn't know him , in the very least she would have stayed and watched from above. Even at that he gets to the tunnel only a few minutes after he is in the water and walks into the tunnel. Shirl would have heard that thunderous voice as she would have been on the long ladder back to the top. Maybe it will be revealed that Shirl did hear, but she would have never left him alone in the first place.

  11. Im confused as to how any of the characters in silo 17 are even alive. The silo was compromised during the rebellion and practically everyone died from being exposed to whatever toxin is outside right? No one is running mechanical so ventilation subsquently wouldnt be functioning. How are they not affected in the same way that all people who went outside to clean were or all those that died in the rebellion. What am I missing?
