Silicon Bites – #30 – Planes, Warships and Communication Centres – Russia is Losing Badly to Ukraine

Edition No30 | 27-12-2023
It is suspected that nearly 80 Russian sailors were aboard the Novocherkassk landing ship during the strike by Ukraine. The missile hit the bow of the ship, leading to a massive explosion and fire. British defense minister claims Ukraine has destroyed 20% of Russian Black Sea fleet in just 4 months. Loud explosions were heard in the port area of Feodosia in temporarily occupied Crimea in the early hours of Dec. 26.

Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk reported a strike on the large landing ship Novocherkassk, expressing gratitude to Ukrainian pilots. The Ukrainian Air Force later confirmed that the attack was carried out with cruise missiles – most likely the Storm Shadow supplied by Great Britain.

  1. People want putin dead ,but whom will fill his thrown ,?? God help us, all including russians if Niklai Patrvshev ,hes known as the Whisperer, he whispers in putins ear and the deed is done. Even putin is afraid of this former KGB agent

  2. The problem is that Ukraine is not getting enough help. It is wearing out. Russia has more resources and they are willing to sacrifice them to achieve some long term empire goal. What you should do is invite someone like Marek Budzisz on, he's one of the top Polish experts on Russia and Ukraine. He thinks Ukraine is losing and will lose this war. He didn't start out this way. Even Bartosiak of Strategy and Future, thinks that Poland itself may be in deep doggy doo. American reliability is no longer what we thought it was. Americans can pack up and leave us out to dry and the Russians already said they want a return to the pre 1989 way of things. Ukraine is losing. And I think Poland/Baltics may be next. I am not as confident about NATO as I was a year ago.
This is not a pro Russian post. Life under Russian rule would be terrible. The small people of the world have to beg the master races of America, to help us. If we don't make ourselves attractive to them, we'll be in the Russian camp, speaking for eastern/central Europe.

  3. Western companies should pay same amount in taxes to Ukraine as they do to Russia and Belarus.

That would be a good sanction to the companys that stay in Russia.

    How about that?
How do we make west to implement this?

  4. Yekaterina Mizulina, hmm, we have our equivalent here. Tiffany Justice Title, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, is one of several examples. Ultra conservative, outsize influence and unclear motivation. Same playbook.

  5. An excellent overview of the state of play as we approach the third year of russia's war of aggression. As usual, Jonathan, you manage to put the spotlight on all the important features.

  6. All this worry from foreign journalists about Donald Trump's return to the Presidency is silly. History shows Obama and VP Biden did not send military help to Ukraine after Putin invaded Crimea. Putin knew this. Trump however sent weapons and Putin didn't invade Ukraine while Trump was in office.
What Trump said is he wanted a plan for Ukraine aide and more help from Europe, especially NATO. This is happening. Trump understands the threat Putin poses to our allies and U.S. interests.

  7. Disability? I would’ve thought that there are many vital supporting tasks within the military that could be very effectively carried out by people who would not be considered sufficiently able to be on the front line?

  8. It is an interesting argument that in order to adopt a more humane and socially acceptable policy of six monthly rotation, the Allied countries should provide higher levels of ammunition – and if they do not, then they are implicitly going to be shouldering the blame for fighting the war in an unnecessarily inhumane manner? Negotiating tactic?

  9. Thanks Jonathan for another great post! In less than two weeks, Patriarch 'killil' will be dressed up in his finery to celebrate Christmas and the birth of the Prince of Peace. In the meantime, his friend, kaputin, has bombed a maternity hospital, along with many other civilian targets. What a disgrace! May the Virgin of Vladimir comfort all who have lost loved ones and may they R.I.P.

  10. One thing I will always get pissed off at is the insistence by British with this bullshit that Britain was 'fighting' alone before the USA joined the fight. This colonialism bullshit denigrates the sacrifices of literal millions of Canadians, New Zealanders, Australians, Indians, South Africans, and many more peoples (in no particular order). Some bigoted Brits will then claim, but they are colonies so don't count, this both adds more insult (and is behavior no different to that of Russians, then and today). And ignores that New Zealand (for example) had been self governing since 1856 (only technically staying part of Britain as that was to New Zealand's advantage for customs purposes only ,New Zealand's foreign policy was total independent of that of Britain's, it in no way was required to declare war on Germany at the beginning of WW2, it did so not for any legal requirement, but due to the people of New Zealand viewing the aims of Nazi Germany as being anathema)

  11. Russia is "losing badly"? Russia controls more Ukrainian territory than it did last week. They say that they don't care about their losses because they have plenty of replacements. Perhaps your analysis needs a rethink.
