“Silica is a crossover of FPS and RTS where up to 3 factions battle for control over the planet of Baltarus. Lead from above as commander, or experience the action first-hand, either alone, or with friends. Join one of two human armies, or hunt them down as the territorial aliens.”
As many of you are aware by now, I loved the C&C franchise unconditionally, the Red Alert & Tiberian series both feature some of my favourite games of all time. Being able to experience gameplay akin to those game entries but from a first person perspective has been a surreal experience. C&C Renegade was heavily limited by the technology of the time, so seeing the potential a game like this has on modern systems is truly exciting, I will be following this games career with great interest!

Video rough script:
Welcome to Silica, a styling of game I never expected to see again, especially to this degree. A rather ambitious blend of base-building focused RTS & first/third person shooter styled combat on a scale that even the most recent Battlefield doesn’t reach. I mean this in the literal sense, the maps are huge & can take quite some time to traverse for better or worse.
Silica is being published by Bohemia Interactive, fans of the Arma franchise & DayZ will be familiar with Bohemia, & whilst we’re on the topic of them, the developers for silica are making use of the Bohemia Incubator service which launched back in 2016 & essentially helps give the devs the tools & funding to create & publish their games. Smaller game studios & designers normally have all the heart when it comes to trying new things with games, but the funding & means isn’t always readily available. The theme & genre for this game is arguably among the hardest if not the hardest to get right. You’re essentially balancing & crafting two polar opposite styles of gameplay.
For instance, the shooter aspect of the game needs to be fun, responsive & fruitful, you need to feel like you’re making a difference as a soldier in the army, otherwise you’re no better than the AI, but this also leads to the dilemma on the flipside of things, when you’re playing as the commander in the RTS hotseat, you want the ability to order your troops around & have them carry some level of combat proficiency to get the job done, you don’t want the human opponents to be like Master chief or doom guy, but you equally don’t want the AI to be unstoppable Terminators completely overshadowing their human counterparts.

Oh yeah i've been waiting for this video!
It's crazy that no other game has implemented the feature the PS2 version Battlefield 2 had for switching/taking control of another unit. You just looked at a soldier or vehicle, pressed the button and you them immediately transitioned to take control of that unit.
The first game ive seen using this concept is an age old game in the early 2000s called Savage. Ah what a gem that got buried too soon
I spent a lot of time on this video, I hope that shows! I want to start making more content akin to this, put more effort into my videos instead of production lining content like I have been in recent years.
I’m not sure what will be happening with CoD content moving forward, this is something I’ve been thinking about for the past few years!
Things need to change & I’m figuring out the future of this channel as we speak! Will let you all know what I plan to do when I figure it all out
reminds me of planetside 2!
Really cool game concept that should be a blast when the game fully releases. I don’t really play rts games but with Infy it might be a good idea for them to give your individual units some kind of veterancy system to make them stronger or weaker depending on the level, for example that accuracy cone being tighter or giving the unit more health maybe it could tie into the kit system for specific units as they get higher veterancy. I hope they work on performance because it will probably run awful for me lol.
You keep in saying production team indicating multiple people are working on it I haven’t gotten to the end of the video yet so maybe you correct yourself but this is made by one person which is crazy
Im doing my part! 😁 Great Video mate!
Sounds like an interesting fusion cuisine game with two intriguing flavours you make a good point in the description regarding good games being held back by limitations of the day, because just think how many of our favourite gaming memories are old ones. Funny how we get nothing but crap despite infinitely better potential thanks to technology nowadays 😐
Performance sounds a bit concerning but I'm sure that'll be a priority for development. Left handed play through when? 😂
Long ago, in the forgotten era of 2012, there was a large scale sci-fi shooter called Planetside 2. Many people don't know of the game anymore or have forgotten about it, and for good reason. Under years incompetent developer leadership, the game has effectively rotted to death and has very few active players now. It was ahead of its time and its uniqueness made the tasks of making the game perform well and play well even harder, which is why I'm glad you emphasized the challenge of mashing together genres at the beginning of the video. Although Planetside isn't an RTS, it is an MMO, and the aforementioned challenge is very comparable. I'm sure that quite a few disillusioned Planetside 2 vets will check this game out, myself included. Nothing has scratched that same itch for so long– maybe this will. I hope the developers learn to avoid the mistakes of Planetside 2's past, and I wish them the best of luck in making this game the best it can be. Knowing how awe-inspiring a large scale sci-fi FPS can be, it's worth the effort. Thanks for giving us an in-depth preview, TGD.
26 isn't old bro, you've lived a quarter of your life. I'm 26 and I still move, run, and jump like I'm 17
Does this game come with a Singleplayer Campaign?
🙂
This looks to me like a typical RTS game mixed with Natural Selection 2 gameplay, though that game is more teamwork focused and fighting is done by players.
I wrote it under another Video, but I hope the Developer removes the large HP pool of the high Tier tanks, giving them more Armor instead, so that the lower Tier units like the Armored Car don't become obsolete late game. Every Infanterist and every Vehicle must be a reliable fighting force throughout the game.
Large fights in this game make me remember the good old days with planetside 2. Those absolutely humangously massive wars with hundreds and hundreds of players clashing in absolutely chaotic massive fight over some huge factory. Oh it was clories. I wish the developers put all their effort into this and make this the next big thing for years to come. The potential is just so huge.
