My favourite idea that i always go back to in intervals is: Underwater cities To build underwater cities where everything is recycled and we produce electricity through water pressure/buoyancy. Im not an engineer or anything but….Well i got solution for most of the most obvious needs. Wish i could eleborate and test some theories i have. I had this idea 25 years ago and todays technolgy has brought it to the brink of being doable. Give the world a break and move into the oceans while the surface have a chance to fix itself. While we are down there we might actually discover many things, there is an abundance of minerals and ore in the oceans, 70% of the planet is submerged, we should focus as much on exploring the worlds oceans as we do other planets. wow, this turned out to be a book, well nobody will read it, but its nice to get thougts outside of you head sometimes, give them some air and see if any new ideas are born outside of my own head. So I went down a rabbit hole about as far as my intelligence/education/patience could go, and my incomplete math & numbers determined that Cody's Hole (That's now its official name) would steal approx. 3% of Mars' TOTAL atmosphere. This is assuming the entire hole would have 1.3kg/m^3 density (~Earth norm) which is obviously incorrect but I don't know how to calculate the variable pressure vs narrowing radius, so I guess what I've actually got is a very sloppy upper bound for the amount of atmosphere this would remove from the rest of Mars. My numbers: 65,449,846,949,787 m^3 volume in Cody's Hole (This assumes a cone point going to zero. Again, limits of what I can do) 6.5×10^13 1.13kg/m^3 Earth norm density 85,084,801,034,723.1 Kg total mass of atmosphere inside Cody's Hole 8.5×10^13 2,500,000,000,000,000 Kg Total mass of Mars' atmosphere (Source: Wikipedia) 2.5×10^16 85,084,801,034,723.1/2,500,000,000,000,000 = 0.03403 = 3.4%

This is the most practical solution I've heard for making a habitable area on Mars that doesn't involve living in caves. Heating the planet just depletes all the gas reserves in a few thousand years. Electromagnetic fields don't do much when average velocity of nitrogen is higher than the escape velocity of Mars.
I still don't see the point of cities and stuff on mars. Also doesn't solar and cosmic radiation make anything other than living under ground not doable?
At that point, we should push phobos against the planet at an angle that will make the biggest hole and not to mention that the matter doesn't have the same mass as on earth, maybe those kind of holes might be easy to obtain with just regular explosives…
Try Ceres for it's Water Content ! . . . btw, Hellas Basin was itself actually created by an Impactor that probably killed the the planet's internal magnetic dynamo.

Ok but what would the Delta-V requirements be to move even one ~5+ km stony asteroid (chondrite seems impractical to push) into a collision course with Mars within a human lifespan? What would the fuel requirements be like to achieve that Delta-V with an object of that size? What would the fuel requirements be to get that fuel to the asteroid in the first place? How large would the crater from that large of a bomb just set off on the surface of Mars be lol?

My mill's former owner used it to make a microwave module that is on Mars…. so a few degrees of separation between me and Mars.
The nice part is, once you hit the spot with enough asteroids, it would enrich the area with Iron and the other good stuff.
We may as well just nuke three hell out of Mars on that case…

There is already a canyon on mars that goes 8 km deep, 200 km wide, and 3000 km long called Valles Marineris. Maybe you could start with that.
