I wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine actually suffered just as many causalties as Russia. Russia has far more artillery pieces and has been using them continuously. Artillery caused most of the causalties in the First World War.

The Reasons why Russia is failing to take ukraine

Before the invasion putin had poor intelligence on the Ukrainians feelings towards Russia, They thought ukraine wanted to join with them since they were russian

Nato has been sending loads of weapons and ammunition to ukraine and intel on russian positions for them to strike

I know I’m stating the obvious bit Putin lacks any self awareness. He foolishly confused honesty with financially based loyalty. His cronies evicersted the Russian military industrial complex while telling Putin that their skimming of money had no effect on the quality/quantity of the military readiness. Meanwhile, Putin planned an invasion of Ukraine without telling them.
When troops crossed the border the charade continied. His senior military commanders that had spent the last decade substituting cardboard for explosives kept lying.
Now Putin is forced to realize that by approving corruption at the highest level his minions stole the country blind. A war planned by using paper data not actual data ruined his plans. The boi is screwed. He has no military. His “loyal” inner circle are anything but and his plans to stop NATO expansion backfired making Putin a recruiting poster for NATO.
I think his invasion of Georgia amd Ukraine were partially driven by the NATO requirement that potential members cannot be involved in cross border disputes. That didn’t work. He is effectively fighting a minimal NATO response, and being stopped. If NATO decides to make an exception and allow Ukraine to join while at war, Putin will be forced back to pre-war borders in weeks.
Vlad messed up. Russia is paying. He has no real option other than sucking it up and apologizing. That will never happen.
Revolution and civil war are parts of Russian history. Vlad may just be repeating history. Being the wealthiest man in the world won’t help this dictator. He is still just flesh and blood and he has created so many billionaire “friends” that don’t want to become millionaires…

Considering most of the troops they are currently using are from impoverished isolated towns and cities scattered across Russia and Russia very clearly don’t care about their poor so I’d imagine many would be MIA and rotting in the battlefield
