Shnootz – Reaction Video (Oleta Adams – When Love Comes to the Rescue)

What’s up, folks! I’m back with another Oleta Adams reaction from her 1993 album Evolution, and this time we listen to “When Loves Comes to the Rescue,” which explored the themes I considered in advance, though from the “opposite” perspective (so to speak). So join me as we listen to another vocally powerful tune from Oleta. Cheers!

Also I run a Patreon featuring some extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation and getting access to reactions blocked on YouTube, behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos can go here: https://www.patreon.com/Shnootz

  1. This is a tune written by Oleta with such a nice, easy R&B groove, featuring electric piano along with acoustic piano. I love some of those low piano chords. Shimmering touches here and there. Just a nice vibe. But then add Oleta's powerful, heartfelt vocals and the song is transformed into such a big ballad. I love how she holds onto a note at the end of a phrase and then pushes on into the next line. Maybe it's the jazz performer in her, sort of an improvisational thing. I get the feeling she would probably never sing a song like this the same way twice. And then there is the lovely flugelhorn solo by Chuck Findley. Again, nice! And I agree with Matt that it is a crime to fade a song too soon, but If Captain Shnootz fines Fontana Records they'll probably pay you in Greedots!

Lyrically, the narrator is sympathizing with another: "You're not alone, I suffer, too." The emphasis is on the narrator's understanding and comforting another: "Your pain is my despair…I've watched you get stronger with every tear…Come let me kiss those tears away." It doesn't define the relationship between the two of them, but it seems to be a love song. "Feeling every aching need, and how much you need to be here with me." But she's receiving his love, too: "Coming to rescue me." Just a beautiful lyric of two people with a special connection. Nice!
