ship of theseus dialogue

dialogue inspired by the ship of theseus thought experiment. not a true representation of the original concept. i changed it because i wanted to (cue angry nerds in the comments)

  1. ok but even if you replaced every line of dialogue in the original thought experiment, isn't it the exact same idea
if each line was rewritten one at a time, at which point does it become a novel work vs a recreation of the original discussion

  2. I mean thesus isn't wrong. it has been changed, cause the actual atoms that comprise the "thing" in question are entirely different. This isn't fucking 101 BC anymore we have microscopes and shit.

  3. here's some dummi thesus proof. Go ahead and begin rebuilding the ship with ur new parts. As you do so, save the old parts and gently put them to the side. When you're done 'rebuilding' your new ship, take the pieces of the old ship and rebuild them. You now have two ships. Ergo, NOT THE SAME

  4. Theseus, whatever are you doing?
I am using wood and tools to create a logic trap for pedantic idiots.
What are you going to call it?
    My ship.
What are you going to call those whom you trap?
    Philosophers.

  5. Wait but this is kind of a cool take on the thing. Like the original idea being that the ship has its parts gradually replaced one by one, whereas this seems like you take the whole ship apart and then completely build a new one in its place. Which is functionally the same technically, but feels way less like the "same ship". Like taking it to its logical extreme. People are really just breaking thought experiments in youtube shorts these days, not bad

  6. This isn't really the ship of theseus / Theseus' paradox. Each single piece would need to be replaced, not copied. I don't think you understand the paradox correctly

  7. Ah, so this is the true new Anthpo. His disingenuous, broken promises have rendered his downfall to be a certain outcome, so a new rising star has appeared.
