* Round 12, 1969 Coll-Haw at Vic Park. Half time scores A&B was Foots 7.7 v Fitz 5.3 * Round 18, Haw-Rich at Glenferrie * Some footage must have been taken at a SM game, as someone says “Go South”, and another excerpt where Rantall is mentioned.
This is absolutely superb. I was transported back to grade 6 and standing on beer cans, the delicious aroma of cigarette smoke , beer and pies in the air and the electric passion at the Yarra Falls end of Victoria Park.
Those were the bloody days. Go woods! Go woodsmen! You don't hear that any more. My dear dad always called our boys the Woods or Woodsmen.
Oh – it's got me all nostalgic and emotional. Thanks for this unexpected gift.
Hi, I was at this match aged 8, Hawthorn supporter and it was 1969 not 1970. Round 18. Hawks led by 8 points at quarter time not 9. Sorry about the correction. Richmond won by 11 points.
Almost had a tear watching this. I was like the little loudmouth in the middle there somewhere, standing on 4 cans and hanging onto the blokes around me. Aggro blokes used to threaten my older brothers and say they'd belt them if I didn't shut up. It was mostly just passion really. The nan's were there early and got all the seats up the front. The pies were hot af but not as hot as the donuts. They had lava in them. Cheer squad members used to do a lap of the oval at the breaks and you'd throw coins into the blanket for the boys to go on an end of season footy trip. Mud everywhere out there. The ball was rock hard and waterlogged. Players smoking in the breaks too, not just the crowd. Footy records jammed in back pockets or diligently updated with scores. Rank haircuts but cool facial hair in the crowd. They were truly great times at the footy. What a great gift to us old heads!
All these old videos continually show how the Australian accent is very very different today
Rhett have you found the Channel 7 1970 David Johnston doco called "Violent Saturday"?
No swearing in the crowds like there is now. Anyone who even uttered a half a one was given short shift back then, by just about everyone
I'm guessing Hawthorn v Richmond, Glenferrie Oval, 1969. Happy to be corrected.

This reminds me of every game of footy I saw as a kid

No odd looking women and men with plastic surgery, great.

The women in this video sound like native birds.
