  6. For all its declarations, pontifications, and assertions, the American predisposition is to Authoritarianism.

    Knowing its history, one might suggest the constitution itself is a fortunate fluke given birth by the particular circumstances of the day that gave energies and pursuit of its exploration via the federalists papers, the historic times and events in western civilizations– the Enlightenment, new philosophies of humanism, libertarianism, individualism that sparked challenges to the established order of absolutism and divine rights of kings. These new assertions of self-ownership, self-determination, self-governance– (for some ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ), thus these rebellions, and declarations that followed.

    Declaration of independence and ratified constitution with amendments.

    Truly. Think about the collective 'us' today. How things really are on the ground, and lived experiences as opposed to what we say are the ideals.

    Could a thing like this constitution happen now? I must be honest. I don't believe it for a second.

    Consider, the seeds of rebellion were the official act to put extra tax on tea sold in the colonies by the East India Company. A governmental act cravenly designed to provide income to a corporation, and the colonists– British subject, given no right to have a vote or say in its details or passing. "Taxation without representation!" THAT was the straw that broke the camel's back! Thus, The Boston Tea Party and eventual Revolution.

    What's our line in the sand? Because what can't they do to us that you under your own steam can do anything about?

    21st century, and look at the dance we need to perform with our government to suggest we are not vessels to be dominated…

    The theory of the Social Contract, where individuals agree to surrender some of their freedoms and submit to the authority of the government in exchange for protection of their remaining rights seems to express is more domination by the government of the people, and the government begrudgingly respecting and 'allowing' the rights of the citizens, so long as they fight and prove and win a judiciary judgement that it should be respected. Apparently, the default posture is to ignore it.

  7. If there actually were more good cops that prosecuted bad cops malfeasance, we would have fewer bad cops. Failing that we just have more bad cops.

    A corrupt tyrant will want to hide their actions. A civic patriot will want to reveal corruption and hold everyone accountable.

    The 1st amendment, freedom of the press, exists for all people to observe actions of our government and report to everyone so that corruption and tyrants can be rooted out.  If tyrants can hide their actions, they can hide their corruption. There is no excuse to prevent transparency and accountability.
