Shazam: Fury of the Gods (2023) – Movie Review

Shazam is back and his superhero family is united to take on a pair of vengeful gods. This was a movie that most fans will be entertained by…but my exhaustion with these types of comic book films has reached critical mass.

  1. Idk, for me it's a 7.5 or something! The villains were forgettable as fuck, the Shazam family was cool, and I laughed really loud at lot of the jokes, especially probably my favourite scene of the year in a superhero film: "Taste the rainbow, motherf*****" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  2. Man I have been watching you for a couple of years now and don’t be pissed, only an observation but you seem burned out. Whether it’s Scream 6, Shazam 2, 64 or earlier movies this year, you seem as if you’re over it. I know in todays world where information is 24/7 ( I’m 50 so it’s definitely not like it was when I was a kid) and every movie has to have more and more to appease, it’s odd to me why people don’t go to the movies anymore to have a good time and enjoy a popcorn movie for what it is. Now with Twitter, Reddit, You Tube, you have trolls and these rabid fans that want to destroy pretty much anything that is not to their liking. God forbid you stray from source material and try something different. I always felt sorry for professional movie critics because their job was to watch movie after movie and like any job, you begin to deconstruct so many things that the magic is lost. What drew me to your channel was your love for movies, especially horror movies but now more movies and shows seem to disappoint or piss you off. Take a break if you have to but in my opinion, I’m glad they are making these types of movies for us to enjoy and Im glad we are actually back at the theaters.

  3. What is crazy is I can watch the raimi spider man movies and the dark knight trilogy over and over because they got so much heart and soul in the story and characters but these new movies just don’t have that heart and soul of the earlier movies that came out before it. Get a director like Nolan and raimi to create a universe in their own way. James Gunn is just going to bring that same slapstick comedy that is destroying these comic book movies for me. The seriousness and message of each story is gone. Honestly Cody if I were you I’d take yourself a break and review past movies and continue with rankings you haven’t finished yet and go see only the blockbusters and horror films this summer.

  4. Sorry for bringing this up Cody I love your channel brother and I will always be a subscriber as long as your on YouTube, but I’m surprised you didn’t mention big John from Halloween kills was also in el Camino, your favorite tv shows spin off movie, was just surprised you didn’t put that in there, but great review, I am also getting very bored with the new superhero movies, besides The Batman, that movie is fucking perfect

  5. This movie was so run of the mill that it just makes me mad. The movie was ok but aside from Zachary Levi and some cool visuals on the dragon and monsters this movie just didn’t do it for me. Better than some MCU recent stuff at least but that’s not saying much.

  6. The Rock better learn how to play with others because every time he tries to do someone else’s IP on his own, he Always crash and burns. Get over yourself, there’s enough room for him, his roids and other superstar actors.

  7. I just came back from an IMAX showing of this film and despite not being pumped for this sequel, I'll have to say I was very entertained. I do think Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Asher Angel (kid version of Shazam) were under utilized….that was disappointing. And thanks to Marvel, we've been oversaturated with comic book films. We need something fresh on par with The Batman and Joker.

  8. I will say Black Adam is way better than Shazam there no doubt about that Cody leach bro and I enjoy Black Adam too I think it was entertaining and I had a great time watching it too but that just me though bro

  9. The execs have fucked the DCEU, they’re constant interference and doing shit like we brought Henry back for you, but now he’s fired. Burned too many times.

Also I wouldn’t bank on Gunn making something fresh & unique, it’ll most likely be DCU’s imitation of Marvel

  10. TBH I didn't enjoy the first Shazam, always thought it and Aquaman were both massively overrated for probably the worst 2 films of the DCEU (except maybe the first Suicide Squad). So yeah think I will skip this I think.

Might catch it on streaming. But the fact it is going no where means even that is unlikely.

  11. Watched Logan again the other night, and that movie is leaps and bounds above the factory-made comic book films we get these days. Same with The Batman. There’s no reason every comic book movie can’t strive to be on the level of those films instead of coming straight off a factory conveyor belt.

  12. Honestly….I loved it. Have some big critiques though. We definitely got way too much Zachary Levi and not enough Billy Bateson. I think the movie brushed on some topics that really could’ve helped explore the overall themes of the movie. Aging out of foster care is legit a very stressful situation for children in foster care. With better set up, Billy getting that security with his family would’ve made for such a stronger emotional pay off than what we got

  13. As much as I like the first Shazam movie, I did not think that Asher angel was a good match for Zachary Levi for an alter ego. I thought jack dylan grazer would have been more of a better match for Zachary Levi.

  14. I completely agree with your take on the trailers….why do they do this? Didn't watch any trailers for Scream for that reason….just give me a quick teaser trailer from now on please

  15. I agree but have to complain about you complaining about the marketing because I've been arguing with people for years over this. If you don't want spoilers then do not watch anything after the second trailer because that's when things starts to get spoiled. I've seen people literally go put of their way to watch every single TV spot and then act surprised that they seen most of the movie. By now people should be aware that watching every trailer and TV spot will spoil a good percentage of the movie that's why I always find it funny when people talking about "seeing too much" because it's your choice at the end of the day. This isn't anything new, been arguing with people about it since 2014 🤣

  16. I believe with the failures of Morbius and Thor Love and Thunder, along with all of the Disney+ shows, I believe most of the audience are having 'superhero fatigue' like you're having Cody. As for me, I did enjoyed both Ant Man and Shazam, as they were there the movies I expected them to be. They're not great, defintley not awesome but, they served their purpose.
