Shadows of Abuse: The Madeline Soto Story

In this “Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski” podcast episode, Tony discusses the tragic story of 13-year-old Madeline Soto, who was found dead the morning after her birthday, leading to a complicated and emotionally charged investigation. Psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott joins to analyze the case, focusing on the bizarre and contradictory statements made by Madeline’s mother, Jen Soto, and the unsettling behavior of Stephan Stearns, who was charged with two years of sexual abuse of Madeline, evidenced by content found on his phone. The discussion delves into the disconcerting interviews given by the parents, their body language, and the psychological implications of their actions, suggesting a profound level of denial or a more malevolent complicity in the events leading to Madeline’s death. The conversation raises questions about the nature of the relationship between Jen and Stephan, the potential for Jen’s awareness of the abuse, and the broader themes of denial, fear, and the devastating impact of such crimes on the victim and the community.

  1. I think there’s a possibility that Maddie unalived herself and to cover up evidence they both needed to conceal evidence. Thats why no one has been charged with murder yet even though he got caught on camera with her dead body and the mom told several lies.

  2. I think the entire "family" has a generational history and dynamic of dysfunction. I think they are secretive and don't have a lot of outside associates. I think Jennifer Soto has been an issue for years, and is the well-kept secret in the family. She wanted to keep that smudge at all costs and may have even agreed to allow Maddie to be violated to have that thing back in her life and house.

  4. They could kill her because she said when she reached 13 years old she is going to live in the woods so they killed her because they know why she say that so they get upset about what she says and more over probably she wanted was the police know what they are doing to her.

  5. She was rubbing his back because she knew he was going down first. She knew that, eventually, she was gonna be investigated and was hopping that he would take the blame for her. Ain’t gonna happen… I suspect that soon they will be pointing fingers to each other.

  6. I think mum turned a blind eye until maddie turned up pregnant. I think the reason mum keeps saying we, I think jen was the one in the church footage that's why she keeps accidentally stating we, because she was there, setting up that shitbags alibi.

  7. May God grant Maddie all of the love and kindness she was not afforded here. Rest in the arms of our savior beautiful child. May God grant me the strength and faith to pray for that monster as I am commanded to do. Lord I'm struggling but I'm trying. May God grant him the mercy he did not grant her. In the name of your son Jesus Christ I pray_ Amen.
