solid dlc tho not my fave but the problem i have with this dlc is how it can be a sleep fest to get to the dlc by going on torrent who is painfully slow through the map Personaly for me my faves ar still old hunters and ringed city
EDIT:tho for some reason i feel like people ar gonna drop this game much quicker than dark souls 3 and bloodborne due to its open world. And lets be honest your not opening the entire map again.Dont get me wrong i enjoyed it but iv pretty much went back to the old games and NIOH2+DLC
5:42 the timing on the skill for the Sword of Darkness is perfect for that black screen before the cutscene.
I kept thinking you were going to talk about the actual issues the DLC has, but then your video ended and you never did. I'll touch upon some of them here. There's no excuse for this DLC to be so empty and devoid of new enemies/bosses and meaningful loot or side areas worth exploring.
The cost of SoE is nearly 2/3rds the price of the full game. I don't think my expectations were too much when say I thought there would be a lot more meat on the bone after 2 years development and the size of the base game, in comparison.
The complaint about the caves, tombs, mines and other side areas from the base game wasn't that there were too many.. It's that they were not unique enough and recycled enemies & bosses too frequently. Fromsoft took those away and didn't replace them with anything!
You mentioned how you were awed when you kept finding new areas.. And that's how I felt, too. But that feeling quickly dissipated when I realized most them were nearly empty. I have never been more disappointed in a Souls game as I was exploring the empty areas in SoE. Constantly, seeing recycled enemies, reskinned bosses, same old loot, or just empty spaces.
Fromsoft also could have added or improved upon things we already had by allowing us to equip another talisman and armor piece, like a cape or something. The empty place for another talisman and armor slot are right there in the equipment screen. FromSoft already have the tailoring needle mechanic to allow the removal of capes in the game, too. Imagine being able to switch capes onto other armor!
Fromsoft could have given us factions, again! With their own sets of unique rewards. Elden Ring would've been perfect for faction based questing areas for PvPing, or to get other specific unique loot. They could have added more PVP arena functionality. What we have is pretty dull. Just three circular arenas. And no host/team options for more varied combat scenarios.
Fromsoft could have given us skins for Torrent. Boss arena rush mode. Grace remembrances to bring back a boss, like bonfire ascetics in DS2. So much could have been added to make this a proper full Elden Ring send off DLC worthy of the price and the success garnered by the base game and it just wasn't done. Such a shame.
And don't get me started on the lore. Thinking about it only further illustrates how unfinished this DLC was and makes me feel like Fromsoft has gotten lost in the sauce. Because they are seemingly too lazy, or didn't have time, or didn't care to try and make any real effort to connect the lore for the DLC to the base game. It feels wholly disjointed and random.
Anyways, that got longer than I expected.. But the summary is that SoE is a major disappointment, for many. If you told me a couple months ago that this would be the send off to one of my favorite games of all time & this is the only DLC we would ever be getting for Elden Ring… I wouldn't have believed such a travesty could be possible. Well, such is life.. I understand your opinion and why people like SoE, but to me it was very average and a huge wasted opportunity.
Idk how dragon claws or wolf claws weren’t a thing
Or octopus limbs
It's not nearly as entertaining or well made. The dlc doesn't have the replayability of the base game. It's just meh
I see some comments on the game world being too empty and/or has too much reused content. And I have to agree with these comments. I haven't beaten the DLC yet, but I have done a ton of exploration. The level design for the DLC is fantastic IMO. I enjoy falling down rabbit holes and discovering new areas layered underneath the world map. The new weapons, items and skills really flesh out the build options too. That being said, I was disappointed to find some amazing areas devoid of enemies and full of animals running around. (For those of you who like to mod Elden Ring. The Randomizer mod has a function that lets you replace all the passive wildlife with enemies of your choice. Without replacing the static enemies. It's a ton of fun.) Something like that would help some of the more barren areas in the DLC world space. The enemies specific to the DLC are great, which makes it a let down when you come across enemies that populate the main game. Thematically some of the creatures have their place. However, for this particular DLC some variations would have been better suited considering how long it took this to come out.
Great dlc and nice to get back into Elden Ring, but after finally beating Promised consort Radahn I uninstalled and probably won’t play Elden Ring again. Hopefully the next game in development won’t take too long to come out.
Play smarter not harder.
My favorite boss in the DLC is Bayle the Dread, just because of Igon!
Gaius's combos are longer than Radahn's. Gaius never stops and his hog dash is nearly unavoidable. He's the one boss i have to use my mimic for. Radahns hard but his combos stay pretty consistent from his first phase. Kust like Milaenia was. Other than that Bayle is a fkn menece. If it wasnt for the dragon slayer and bayles slightly lower stagger, hed be a nightmare.
Amen
This may be unpopular opinion, but even thought dlc has bosses and lore that are related to some major npc from base game (rellana, messmer, and the whole thing with metyr, marika and miquela) it doesn't add anything new. I mean even just a few extra dialogue feom mellina or ranni is enought for me.
Most of the map is completely vapid, and it’s really annoying seeing people defend it with “because story”. Chaos forest, finger ruins, red/blue coast, scadu chalice up north, shaman village… empty (except for repeat bosses sometimes). Not saying the dlc was bad, the good parts are fantastic. But like others have said, it probably could have been half the size and felt twice as good. But when you spread everything so thin it feels undercooked or like they forgot to fill the areas
Exploring isnt as rewarding as in the main game is my biggest complaint for the DLC… it feels somehow empty and scarce… rest is pretty good but not even close to the base game. Lets be completely honest about that. Lorewise its a nice addition and something we all kinda saw coming… but it doesnt really impact the game whatsoever and thats sad… I would have loved a new ending or sth worthwile for defeating Miquella or maybe even not having to kill him at all and have some kind of alternative between NPCs like St.Trina.
I loved it & I'm now playing through the whole game again in order to play the entire thing. I just adore how From's philosophy treats the players like adults in a game made for adults, effectively allowing us to set our own difficulty level with absolutely zero hand holding. Given how most AAA developers seem to think we're all morons who can't figure out anything for ourselves (or use the internet lol), isn't that just wonderful? I do agree they should have had more voice acting & cut scenes for the main bosses though.
Its the best game this year
The DLC adds literally no depth or narrative to the story, its just a quick cash grab.
Wow content creators sound like bitches in the dark souls 1 times these days
To be honest screw this game. There was an update 1.19. It's like 25% chance of completely missing your shots with some spells. Things were fun until they Nerf It to the Ground. By the the way, endure doesn't work with pest tread spears.
I was struggling with Bayle but as soon as i switched to the Hexer Arm weapon i broke Bayle's poise for the first time. And as soon as i used Igon's summon for the first time… i murdered Bayle for the first time 😮
The DLC was for me the Cherry on the Top very good Game i wish we could get an other on .
Literally one of the greatest pieces of art of our time. I'm so sorry that there are poor souls out there who are too depressed to enjoy good things.
As I played through the DLC I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I was puzzled by the ‘perfect’ comments from people around the web, similarly to the base game. For all the things it does right, it still has plenty of issues.
I agree with most of what was said here, but especially the bit about the new weapon classes, schools of magic, etc. Truly mind boggling that they invented new schools of magic and weapon types with only 1-2 additions in them.
My biggest gripe with the DLC specifically is that it felt like I lost some of the agency I had as a player in the base game. There were bosses that felt straight up unbeatable solo as a mage. Couple that with the fact that they added virtually nothing of value for intelligence users and I was ultimately forced to just respec my character to beat the game.
Also disliked how empty the map felt. I’m an explorer in all games so I hit every single corner of the map. Most of the time there was little or no reward to be had for exploring, which wasn’t the case in the base game. This is especially true of the Abyssal Woods. Terrible, gimmicky area with nothing in it.
The builds you were using throughout the video were creative asf man, I never thought of using Endure to let u tank hits to pull off long cast time Incantations.
the main problem i have with this dlc is that a lot of things feel very unfinished and rushed. for example:
-The east side of the map has very few items compared to everywhere else
-An overwhelming number of cookbooks that each have only one or two recipes
-Complete disregard of Godywyn's story
-Low number of catacombs/caves (no, i dont think it makes it more rewarding to find them, i think the lack of them makes exploring less enticing)
-Performance being noticably worse than the base game
All this and they still charged it at the price they did. I feel like I got half the experience that the devs originally hoped i would have because of issues out of their control. Its frustrating.
Shadow of the Erdtree was a massive letdown in terms of actual story beats in the game, there's plenty of neat lore teasers in item descriptions, and the launch build of some of the bosses was outright bullshit. Gaius was disrespectful AF with him bugging to start charging at you from straight ahead as soon as you enter after you died, glad they fixed that at least. But Radahn is still a real dumb fucking fight, as was the story behind it.
What a joke of an expansion overall, honestly. It gave us more playtime, sure, but so much of it feels (or felt, if they've fixed it) half-assed in so many ways. The utter lack of bosses having a purpose in the story of the DLC, almost the entire roster of bosses, is beyond disappointing. And the fact that they chose to balance so many DLC bosses around having nigh infinite attack patterns and little to no openings is fucking pathetic.
Literally finished the DLC and reinstalled Dark Souls 2 SOTFS and have been enjoying that immensely.
If you are around rl 150 on a first play through the difficulty is spot on. If you are ng +++, good luck.
But they nerf the weapons yall find that are op but can u say u can kill radahn ?
Imagine using garbage weapons , no armor , no summons and complain about the difficulty 😂😂😂
As a long time souls player, i'm happy for any cut scene. They did one thing right, we all want more. Hope the next one is Bloodborne based and twice the depth of ER.
I'm going to be honest with you though. If you think the boss fights are somewhat RNG solo and don't enjoy that adding more NPC's to the fight certainly makes that worse. "Just add summons" is a dumb take when adding summons is honestly less fun. Its annoying that the old "git gud" crowd has made the game less fun for me. The bosses aren't "too hard" they just aren't fun anymore.
