A SETI Institute expedition flag was flown at the Haughton-Mars Project (HMP) base camp on Devon Island, High Arctic, at 75° 26’N, 89° 52’W, for an entire year, from Aug 7, 2023 to Aug 7, 2024.
The HMP is led by SETI Institute PI Dr Pascal Lee.
Devon Island is the largest uninhabited island on Earth. A.k.a ‘Mars On Earth’, it is the largest single expanse of frigid rocky polar desert on our planet.
The Haughton-Mars Project, established in 1997, is a global leader in planetary analog field research.
The HMP base camp is now the world’s largest privately operated polar research station.
