In this highly anticipated second part of my kitchen makeover series, I take on the challenge of reorienting my kitchen space with my contractors and finding the perfect countertops to complement my design aesthetic. I’ve learned throughout this process that weighing the pros and cons of various options, and ultimately making big decisions is way harder than I thought when it comes to a kitchen.

But the journey towards a dream kitchen is not without its bumps in the road. In this video, I also open up about my growing sense of regret about undertaking this makeover project. From unexpected expenses to unforeseen complications.

  1. NOT marble. So pretty, but too fragile for a high-traffic surface. (Unless you are into sealing it and worrying about it regularly…or you won't worry about it).

I made this mistake with Soapstone. Gorgeous slab with a stunning pink quartz vein through it, but in the end, such a pain to care for. But I'm a person who has chosen a vehicle color that "is as close to dirt color as possible". I don't like the fuss and I want things to look clean with minimal effort.

As much as the aesthetic matters, for me, I've found best outcomes when I start with durability/cleanability.

    FWIW I'm an Interior Designer

  2. I'm going to renovate my kitchen probably next year. I'd LOVE LOVE to know what you learned and what you'd do differently. We live in the same area so having a creator like you nearby is SO AWESOME! And pick the quartzite. So much easier to maintain!

  3. Love marble but from the functional side ist veryyyyyy annoying😢 stains super easily, maintenance is high and not as heat resistant as other options..

  4. Quartzite; more economical, durable, less maintenance; nice warm undertones; less veining (you need to bring out the light in that dark space!); overall looks pretty! 🎉❤

  5. i’ll go against the majority and say the calacatta marble looks so classic and outstanding in its own way! it gives a pop of element amidst the dark kitchen – classy but outstanding in its own bold way!

  6. I'm so in love with that marble 😍 the green and brown tones and dramatic veining! Then again, I am very extra, and my style def skews very vintage glamour & art deco w/ mcm lines. The marble requires a bit more care, but ask yourself: How often have you set a hot dish directly on your countertop before? That's not really a habit I want to get into 😅. How quickly do you usually tend to spills? What's your plan for the backsplash, and which countertop would compliment that best? If you go bold with one, you shouldn't go bold with the other lol then you have to consider your usual design choices in decorating and if you'll even be able to see enough countertop to appreciate it in the first place.

  7. I think maybe you should make up your mind before ordering everything or paying contractors to do work. Change orders make everything cost more… also Samsung are the worst appliances..
