The Augusta Museum of History continues its popular Brown Bag History Lecture Series in 2022. The theme this year is Era of Change: 1950-1980. The eighth presentation in our series on September 14th is entitled: The Founding of the Augusta Symphony.
Founded in 1954 under the baton of Music Director Harry M. Jacobs, the Augusta Symphony has evolved from a small group of 15 musicians to an 85-member professional ensemble and leading regional orchestra. Our guest speaker, Dr. Sumner Fishbein, discusses the impetus for founding the symphony and the changes that occurred from 1950-1980.
ABOUT THE 2022 BROWN BAG HISTORY LECTURE SERIES:
The Brown Bag History Lecture Series is an educational lecture series provided monthly by the Augusta Museum of History. The Augusta Museum of History is dedicated to creating a safe environment for our staff and guests. Therefore, we are currently only offering the presentations virtually.
THEME: The 20th century brought a lot of growth and change to Georgia. From two World Wars to technological and industrial advances to the fight for Civil Rights, the Augusta area changed more dramatically during the three decades following World War II than in any period since the post-revolutionary boom. The 2022 Brown Bag History Lecture Series will highlight many of these changes and their impact on the region.
