I voted today in NY. They didn't need or want my photo ID. They said they were doing signature identification.
I had to sign on an iPad 3 TIMES before they said "close enough".
My signature is never identical as what it was 4 years ago. I'm getting older and if I remember correctly I signed on paper 4 years ago and today they asked me to sign on a digital screen with a stylus. it comes out very different as many know when having to sign your name after using your credit card.
I'm not someone that thinks there's rampant voter fraud, certainly not enough to sway any results. But even experts will say that "signature verification" is bullshit.
signatures are easier to mimic by someone else than it is to duplicate by the actual person it belongs to.
It shouldn't be the be all and only verification. I honestly thought for a minute that they were going to deny my right to vote. The government should issue everyone on their 18th birthday an official ID card. Again, not that I think voter fraud is a huge issue, but because I almost was not allowed to vote because the guy on the other side of the table was given the unearned title of a "signature verification professional".

In most EU countries we have ONLY paper ballots, NO computerized machines, SINGLE day elections (Sunday), you vote ONLY with your ID (or passport).
And somehow, we have +95% of the results within 3-4 hours.
Only overseas citizens can vote by mail, and only in their local embassies.
If you are 100 or 200 Km away from your polling station you don't have to vote.

Not a election thing itself but in general a signature is not authentication or validation. A signature just shows someone doodled in the box. To be validation/authentication it needs to be compared to a verified signature and non-changing between uses by the same person. At best, it shows a person read the directions.

I’m in Pima County, Arizona and our ballot also ran to 2 two-sided pages. I believe that the entire state needed this because there weren’t that many strictly local races and a long list of ballot initiatives for the entire state.

I am seventy years old. I haven't created two signatures that look alike in years. Interestingly, my fingerprints have not changed since I was a teenager. What is in the water in America that makes us insist on collecting signatures that might occasionally prove we are when we have fingerprints that will usually identify us, DNA that will almost certainly identify us, and a myriad of two-factor authentication practices on electronic devices that will 100% identify us.
