Climate action is urgent. As the world warms at an unprecedented pace, governments and companies need to act to rapidly phase out fossil fuel production in line with the scientific consensus to not exceed 1.5ºC of warming. Left unchecked, the forthcoming energy transition will be inadequate to tackle the climate crisis and unfair, undermining economies, livelihoods, energy access and citizen participation in resource dependent countries. PWYP members have a valuable role to play in securing a just and fair energy transition.
This session explored the landscape and risks of the forthcoming energy transition, what that means for resource dependent countries and how PWYP can make a difference.
