Second Age series – Lore breakdown of Ep 1 (part 1/2) | Rings of Power: What it should have been

Welcome to this first lore breakdown of episode 1 of my own Second age series – The Rings of Power – What is should have been. In this video we go through the prologue and first 4 scenes and get a deep dive into events before the Second Age as well as some lore you might not have noticed in episode 1 of The Rings of Power – What is should have been.

So in this breakdown we will talk about the Ainulindalë, the balrogs of Morgoth, dragons, orcs, Sauron and other servants of Morgoth.
We will also dive into traditions, customs and lore about Númenor and its inhabitants. We’ll also dive into fascinating characters like Vëantur, Tar-Elendil and Aldarion. Aldarion was quite the extraordinary king of Númenor and he’ll also be the main protagonist of season 1 of this Second Age series.

  1. I quite agree with your decision to simplify by assigning only one name per character. In a visual medium (and without a Silmarillion index close at hand), audiences could quickly get confused 😁

  2. Sorry I missed the live-stream. I'll make time tomorrow to watch this properly out of respect for the work you put into these fabulous lore-based videos. Can't wait for Episode 2 and its follow-ups.

  3. Can I say thank you for this and your other videos. It has inspired me to read through the legendarium! I guess that the evil of the Rings of Power helped bring some good of me falling deeper in love with Tolkiens world.

  4. Wow. Well that was worth taking time over. Your thought processes and editing choices are fascinating. Adaptation is a real skill. Jackson proved this in a good way, and Rings of Power failed at it to an epic degree. Even after a single episode, there's an intriguing and cohesive narrative emerging. I genuinely can't wait until the start of Feb to see where this goes next.

  5. I honestly can't find the right words to say about this series. I am eagerly and anxiously looking forward to every next drip and drop of content you reveal in this story. Thank you for undertaking the creative journey of telling an expanded story in the world of Tolkien's Middle Earth. Your reverence for the source material is evident and genuine…which I greatly appreciate. Thank you for all you are doing (and those supporting and helping you) to tell new and properly told stories that spark the imagination.

  6. A thought occurred to me, if you don't want a huge and prolonged info dump at the beginning of the first episode, perhaps each (or at least several of the first) episodes can begin with a cinematic flashback, mini lore introductions that are maybe relevant to each episode as well.
Interesting so far, plus I can really tell you put lots of work into it. Will be tuning in for more!
