Today in The Repair Shop, Jay Blades and the team bring three treasured family heirlooms, and the memories they hold, back to life. Music box expert, Stephen Kember, and furniture restorer Will Kirk come together to work on a music box that is housed in a replica Swiss chalet. Much of the intricate wood detailing has fallen off and the music box has not played a note for decades. The music box is brought back to life and hand delivered by Stephen to owner Suzanne and her excited grandchildren.

Ceramics restorer Kirsten Ramsay has the world in her hands when she mends a miniature globe from the 1800s. The piece is made using a fragile material called gesso, which proves quite a challenge when piecing it back together. Kirsten must then replicate any missing chips and clean this delicate object.

And Master Goldsmith Richard Talman works wonders on a cherished garnet bracelet given to owner Jane by her late mother. The bracelet is in pieces and several of the garnet stones are missing. A previous unsuccessful attempt to mend it may have rendered it beyond repair but, using state of the art technology and great skill, Richard saves the day and Jane can now wear and enjoy the beautiful bracelet that holds so many memories for her.

  1. Beautiful pieces. That bracelet — quintessential Victorian. And the little globe, so beautiful. Can’t believe that intricate, gigantic music box, what a dream. Amazingly incredible repair work! Wow! Impressive!

  2. I enjoyed it, as always, but it isn't how it used to be. In the first 2 seasons they would repair and fix to an almost new object. Now it's like they're cutting corners to save money(?). The globe was not finished, it was just painted to hide the filler. In the past Kirsten would have done it all, especially the words and lines. With the chalet jewelry/music box Will would have matched the railings and made new ones and replaced all that was missing.
What's going on? The only normal repair was the new guy the gold smith/jeweler. This show must be going under? Sad.

  3. Ive never been a fan of garnet stones, but this piece was restored so beautifully that I would proudly wear it. The music box was a 3D nightmare and was impressed with the work Will was able to accomplish. That tiny globe was so unique Kiersten and Will brought back to life❤❤❤

  4. Wow! All the pieces in this one are beautiful and intricate and unique. Amazing that Kirsten could repair that tiny globe – and made out of gesso! The intricacies of repairing the chalet and its music wheel and comb and that stunningly beautiful bracelet, just a very impressive show this time. Loved it ❤
